Plains of Abraham Museum

Posted by Rich W on 30 Oct 2022, 00:50

Over the past few weeks I've been lucky enough to visit a few historical sites whilst on holiday in North America-Fort Ticonderoga (Carillon), Yorktown, Fort McHenry, Quebec. Whilst in the Plains of Abraham museum I came upon these cabinets with dioramas in them. They are all 1/72 plastic figures from all the usual makes and someone has gone to a lot of effort to be as creative as possible for a period of history that is not well covered in 1/72. The painting and basing is all very basic, but i did take great joy in looking at these displays and imagining the fun someone would have gone to in putting them together. They represent various stages of the siege of Quebec (including attack on Beaufort, various raids, Sainte Foy in 1760).

I thought I'd share the photos (which are not very good-sorry!) in case anyone else is interested. If anyone is ever planning on visiting Quebec (which you should as it is a lovely city!), I would highly recommend the museum.

Those kept someone busy for a year or 2. I always loved those museum dioramas of any scale. I spent nearly a decade growing up NY and got to visit many of the forts. Whenever traveling my parents would pull off for any battlefield or museum me and my brother said we wanted to see. Wish I still had the brass cannons, I bought one at every fort we visited and had a shelf full.

I love it when museums do dioramas like this, there should be more of it.

I enjoyed seeing these Rich, thanks for posting. And enjoy the rest of your holiday.
