Brunswickers at Quatre Bras

Last November at the Dioramica I was approached by a very nice gentleman asking where are the Brunswickers in my re fight?

His name is Andre and is a Feldwebel in a re- enactment group.



I promised to try and model him although the Brunswick corps did not arrive until 4PM approximately and will feature later in my project.

I tried to make a pair of spectacles using a strand of Der Feldmarschall's hair.



Whilst the technique was relatively successful the lens needed were so small that he looked like he was wearing sunglasses with my efforts.

Unfortunately I had to give up but, here as promised, but not as handsome, Andre on patrol pre Quatre Bras. More of him, his comrades and the Duke after four O'clock.

I love your never-ending project and still more your intensity to create the absolutly right uniforms for your troops altthough some doesn´t exist from manufactories. And your story with the Brunswick Avantgarde-soldier is really pretty. He will been now an integral part of your project.

More casualties.

In order to re create cavalry actions with a degree of realism it is necessary to have suitable casualties.

Unfortunately, with a few exceptions such as Art Miniturian, these are difficult to source.

Severe chopping and swapping allows us to recreate the figures needed for our units.

These fine fellows are for the sixth Belgian hussars. Hat KGL Dragoon bottoms with the sabretache together with Airfix RHA bodies for the lacing make up the basic frame.

Various hats,heads and green stuff for bedding rolls, etc are added for effect.

The Italieri hussar has had the boiling water, pliers and cold water treatment to bend him over as a falling guy.

They need tidying up and also a cartridge webbing before painting but I am pleased with the overall result.

Dead guys muskets do not evaporate or disappear without reason. I use dozens and Schilling fallen come with them as standard. However, Hat Brunswick and Dutch troop packs have them as standard. Most useful.

I like my the fights to tell not only the main story but also the stories within the story.

As part of the composition process individual scenes help convey the human side of conflict and to this end I have constructed a Dutch militiaman lamenting the death of his friend.

The legs were Hat Dutch, the body a severely carved Airfix WW1 US machine gunner with a Hat Dutch Belgian milita hat on.

The straps are tissue paper with a Schilling back pack and musket to complete the assembly.

The straps when glued were trimmed to size.

I had a think and a Hagen head seemed not only more appropriate in the circumstances but added a bit of life to him.

Very good conversions, the Airfix RHA bodies work remarkably well.

Thank you for posting. I used paper a lot years ago to aid conversions so this item brought back good memories of former fun filled fiddly bit times. Following on with Gunnar`s thoughts upon bandages, a Mummy one could be done for Bonaparte`s Egyptian campaign. BB
