Waterloo Project Squares Update

Posted by Captain Sibourne on 18 Jul 2024, 09:50

The next stage of my Waterloo project will focus on the French cavalry charges and to that end I've been working on three double battalion squares from Chasse's Division. This has been a huge amount of work, and in all amounts to some 3,000 figures.

Chasse's Division had been deployed to the West of Wellington's line at Braine L'Alleud but were brought in to the rear of the centre to form six double battalion squares. The units were a mix of Dutch Line, Belgian Line, Militia and Chasseurs. I'm hugely indebted to my team of painters who have helped with these figures.

Add these to the four battalions at Hougoumont, the 2nd Light KGL at la Haye Sainte and the battalion of Nassauers at Papelotte, 46 Allied battalions are complete. There are also 14 Prussian battalions complete, making 60 battalions, roughly 30,000 men. This figures does not include artillery, cavalry, staff, or of course, the French. Phew, this has taken some time!

Amazing work. Each of these squares represents a monumental effort and the effect of such massed troops must have been terrifying to any cavalrymen who dared to charge at them; that's a lot of barrels and bayonets pointing in your direction! Fantastic effort and kudos to all who helped in their construction. If I may ask is there a difference between "ready" and "complete" status?
Cheers,

Many thanks everyone. 'Complete' is just my shorthand to say that the square is based, while "'Ready' means that the figures are painted but not yet based.

Add another ‘wow’ to the list, Captain Sibourne. It's the least that such an incredible collection of squares deserves. :notworthy:  :notworthy:
