Braving the Winter Snow

Posted by Beano Boy on 04 Jan 2015, 16:29

The fresh snow of that cruel cold icy winter had indeed arrived over night. Silently it spread itself far ,and wide. Every where looked the perfect picture of an iced over Wonderland.

Image

It was the first winter following the defeat of Napoleon, and he was safe tucked away on Alba. The brave Prussian Officer,on his sled raced down the icy sloops in order to bring a little joy to those who`s fathers never came home. Such is a certainty of war, Dad`s don`t always return.

Image

A few brightly painted home made toys, and small packages, gifts of food cradled in a sack for the Poor Widows Son`s_________________and the daughters of Eve, were fixed tight to the tiny sled. The soldier home now hopefully he thought for good, braved the harshness of every sloop until he arrived at his first pleasant stop. His trip down was over. Returning to his home is altogether another story for perhaps another time.

Thanks Peter,
for your wonderful tiny gifts,Mrs B,and i were well pleased. They are all painted up,and this one is the first to be placed anywhere. The others will follow shortly. Beano Boy
This is a truly fitting place for my story ."Braving the Winter Snow."

I managed to take the photo`s just before it started to get dark. I went outside held my wooden painting pallet up with one hand that had the sled upon it,and joggled a few quick shots off. Not easy to remain steady, but the camera captured eventually what I wanted, and all in time to thank Peter for sending this fellow to us.

The snow is a secret handed down to me by my, Uncle Neddy Eddy Longbottom Bean, but Dalibor, it is simply called the fresh sloops of Baking Powder! BB

If one is wanting it to sparkle like snow at night, use icing sugar! Perfect! BB

I must just add here that this Tip is from Mr W U. "You need to defy gravity to take pictures like those ones already seen," he said.

So use a good solid Lump of Glue! The job needs extra time and planning ahead too. Lump the Glue onto a 2" thick board in March, then wait until it is just Tacky Like in late December. Then Pour Tons of Plaster of Paris onto it ,and_____________________________ Sneeeeeeeeze! Quite a few times. Well Mr W U did covering not only his nose and now rather white feet, but the entire table, and once it all settled the entire room too. It was on the frames of the pictures, and heaped heavily upon the top of each and every doorway. The rather dim 15 Watt light bulbs now shone even dimmer through dusted snow like shades . Upon my questions upon this matter,he only answered ,"BB it`s all part and parcel of the process leading to complete success," while Spluttering out Clouds of Dust at the same time. Now after gaining all this vital info from Mr W U,i was well pleased to see how he lightly applied a rather Large 10 Ib hammer to force the sleds runners through both the heaped up Plaster of Paris and the Heavily Globed on Glue! Each time while applying the hammer his feet leapt up off the floor. Then I was most surprised to see him use his dusty Spec`s to create the outlines left in the snow by the sled, but the Master Touch was when he Wet Misted over the whole thing with a spray-bottle with water taken from an Old Rusty Bucket. Amazzzzzzzing! Every thing was Rock Solid Fixed in a few short minites including that which was elsewhere in the room too. The pictures below proves it to be the case.
Now upon the thickness of the board, when I asked him about that he simply said,"Well BB it stops the board from warping over the long drying period required." Of course it now made complete and utter good sense to i, I mean Me BB.

WHOOOOOOOOSH! Arrived Safe.

Like all good Tips, and you`ll need one! I like to pass them on.
Now it must be said,"That I never got covered at all during the whole process that Mr W U went through,How greatful I was of that. Lucky too, when I think of it."

If all this makes absolute sense to you the reader, then you need to see someone, perhaps in the Twilight Zone! Of course Mr W U stands for a Wind Up,and I hope you raised a smile or two while taken time out to read it. Well it all made Fred & MayBell laugh so that's good.

Below shows how in pictures.

Daan85, if you try out a quick mock up job,be very careful not to get the flour onto your camera lens. I washed my hands before I touched my camera. My camera has quite a good zoom, which gives very good results at creating illusion.( I miss spelt it before sorry ) The actual process is easy enough ,but after you spoon on the flour ,and spread it around just pick the whole thing up and tap the side of the board lightly to get rid of spoon our finger impressions. By doing so the flour will slowly form a good result. Well that is what I did guys. Job done in less than a minute. Of course this fun time shoot was not aimed at those who want a permanent model on display. That requires a lot of time and skill of which I find i often lack. I`m surprised that at the time of typing this with my one good finger,584 views of this topic had occurred which is rather nice. This to me makes it all worthwhile spending my time doing stuff & typing what goes along with each and every topic placed on this Priceless Forum. MMMMMMMMMMM! Delicious, but of course it goes without saying it really, "I am on a diet. I only eat meals between Snacks! My O My! I do believe because of that pleasant smell coming from the kitchen, One is Coming Up. Sorry I say to others. Years of Utter Starvation when young made me this way,but I am not greedy. Please, sit down and have some too." BB
