Skirmish between Romans and Germans

Posted by PhilC on 16 May 2015, 13:54

I wanted to try a color scheme for an early imperial roman army. This one is extremely common, but I like it anyway. Romans by ESCI, Germans by ESCI and Hät.

using a sword instead of the pilum thats provided in the set, makes it a much better looking figure.

Thanks for the comments. Tom s, you are right concerning the pilum, a sword instead would be fine. I love the sculpture of these ESCI minis, but I must admit that most poses aren't realistic, and some absolutely weird.
On the first picture, the legionary on the left is slightly converted - I had to cut his left arm, so that the shield protects the man. There is some conversions to do to finish this army...

One again we can admire your clean and precise style of painting - the color scheme may be a usual one, but it's realistic and you have applied it with execellent results!

Oh I see what you mean, there is a similar pose with pilum in that set. I consider bending or cutting the right arm to get a legionary with a vertical pilum (well, at least I'll try...).
Concerning my previous answer, I meant that it is probably very difficult to run AND launch the pilum, so I will follow your advice for the next fig with that pose: a sword :-)
