First try at Zvezda Grenadiers a Pied

Posted by Acid on 26 May 2015, 19:34

Hi All!

I have a couple of boxes of the great Zvezda Grenadier a Pied which will be placed in a bigger diorama down the road. This is my first attempt on painting them. What do you think?

I pushed the like button, so that is clear! ;-)

They look great!

Maybe a little tip. White paint - Grey wash - Drybrush or highlight with white on the trousers. ;-)

I remember well when this Set first hit the Market Place, and I bought the entire stock in the only model & Toyshop in Norwich worth the entering. I just love them, and its good to see these painted and based up too. Be sure and show off the rest of the Old Guard when they are all finished. Well Done Acid BB

Thanks for the comments guys!

I will be visiting FIGZ for sure, maybe I should bring my few finished projects to bring and show, a (very) small box for transportation will do….;-)

Nice painting. I agree with what said on grey washing the white trausers + white highlights afterwards. I would also brush some weathering powder on gaiters and boots to create some dust effect.

Yess...painting the whites...indeed. I did actually start out with sky grey paint which I washed with black..to build up white color next. Worked fine for the separation of pieces of cloth, not so well for shadows. I will try washing white with grey next time! Thanks for the tips all!

So...should I make it more "official" and also bring my brushes and some unfinished stuff to work on during the day!?

Well - I'd say do whatever you like, as long as you come and join us. :-D

Btw - nice clean painting so far. Next step would be shading and highlighting.
Some prepare washes - but that depends. Personally, I don't like them too much because I found thin liquids being difficult to control. I prefer painting shadows manually - mixing the original colour darker, then painting the foldings from the darkest to their brightest section. At the end, you mix the basic colour in a brighter way to paint the highlights.
