Napoleonic Wars - Wurtemberg Cavalry

Posted by CPN on 01 Nov 2015, 17:31

Good evening everyone
Please find attached my Wurtemberg Cavalry the 1er regiment de Chevaux Léger.
I am not sure of the exactitude of the uniforms / horse equipment. I am also looking at the proper flag for this unit so if someone can send some helps in that regard I would very much appreciate it.
Feel free to comment.
Cheers

I always like to see yellow-blue uniforms even they are historically incorrect (I'm not saying those are or aren't ;) )

You're pleasing the Napoleonic cavalry painters here with these. I'm not familair with Wurttemburg cavalry so not sure about the historical accuracy but I like them!

I think you need the help of Sascha (Zed1). He's some kind of specialist on these uniforms! ;-)

But a big like from me for the painting!

:cowboy:" I think they ought ta be in green on them nags."
Now ,now we must not be pedantic.I`m sure some of the heavy cavalry were blue uniformed.

CPN,keep painting and posting. :-D BB

HI ,
the Wurttemberg cavalry had some units in green uniforms and others in blue. That I am sure of because I have good documentation.
on the other side I still miss the proper flag of this regiment beacause that very same documentation is not that comprehensive.
if anyone knows well thank you in advance.

What I found out is that chasseurs had green and chevauxlegers had blue uniforms. And there were some minor details like chevauxlegers had side plume on their helmet etc.. Shabraques for horses were significantly different. HaT obviously made this set was as chasseurs.

Er... hello!
No, this uniform is not appropriate for 1814. Whatsoever - the basic figures allow easy modification.
If you use these chaps for wargaming only, I bet nobody would recognize the difference anyway (or even care) but if you want to have it as close to the real McCoy as possible, there's little you have to do.

Oh - and stop looking for flags. These chaps didn't carry any flags into battle.

At first: the HaT set contains early chasseurs a cheval. The coat is identical to the one of the light horse, but the latter wear high boots without tassels. Just cut' em off and straighten the boots' top line a bit. The difference regarding the size/height of the helmets' caterpillar will not be recognized at all - for this, the modelling of the HaT figures is simI ply too lousy. But you shall add a plume to the helmet.
And please - overpaint that yellow stripe on the caterpillar - that's wrong.

The late light horse wore that yellow waistbelt - perfect to hide the lower part of the uniforms' breast so that nobody would see the differense anymore. Add a small belt, perhaps by modelling one from toilet paper and wood glue.

Last thing: the saddlecloth. Light horse had a more rectangular one instead of that pointy shape - you can cut it into the right shape with a scalpel. Finally, add some pistol pockets. Done.

I wrote a tutorial about this exact subject. If you like, have a look here: http://bennosfiguresforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=9379
