Does this ever happen to you?

Posted by Bramble15 on 31 Dec 2016, 17:42

Recently I have been messing around trying to come up with a groundwork process that looks more realistic and adds a bit more to the little pieces I put together. I took a handful of my bases both wooden and dense foam and started applying everything from real dirt to a grout based medium. When everything dried I started applying paint then dry brushing and washing. What I was left with was a circular base that immediately produced this specific idea. I don't know why, I just looked at it and the colors were very dark and drab. I am very happy with the end result as it adds texture with a few little rocks and ballast added and anything else you can imagine. Amazing how sometimes you can struggle so hard to come up with ideas and then sometimes they just smack you right in the face!!! Hope you like it.
BTW - Happy New Year to all my Bennos friends!

My main intrest in basing is figures - rather than dioramas. For the last few years I base my figures with a light colour rather than a dark colour a) because ground normally dries to a pale colour, and b) because a light coloured base highlights the figure better.

However these look really good.

I agree with Hellboy, the technique is good but the more importnat is that you catch the atmosphere with colors and all that you put there, and of course the expresion of the figures. The soldier (with the helmet) looking at the fallen comrade... very, vaery nice scene.
