My smallest diorama

Posted by Lobowwe on 03 Apr 2017, 11:02

shows a member of a very short-lived unit of the Italian Army in WW2- the Free India Battalion. Recruited from POWs, they preferred to socialize with the locals, did very poorly in field exercises, They were eventually disbanded after a silent mutiny (never showed up for roll call) in Nov 1942. Here we see a member of that unit on detached duty in Rome while the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem was visiting. (doesn't show up but I did manage to do the correct Indian shoulder shield colours. The figure is actually a headswapped Airfix Luftwaffe figure. The smg came from Early War Miniatures

I know that the German use some POW India soldier for a unit in France.
That the Italian do the same (not for long) is new to me.

Headswapp is well done.
