Vistula Legion Infantry

Continuing with my Tudela project I thought I would tackle some Vistula Legion infantry next. The set is the Waterloo 1815 set, 1812/14, which is considerably later than what I was aiming for (1808) but the uniform didn't change radically. And options for these in 1/72 are limited.

I was always under the impression that the Vistula Legion present in Spain wore shakos with the sunburst plate, rather than schapkas, as per image below:



Do you have information that shows them in schapkas? I'd be interested to learn about the variations in style. Were schapkas an earlier variation on headgear phased out after the wear and tear of campaign?

It is rather cool having a small setting in place for placing props and figures from any range or period. You managed to paint detail upon your figures whereas I saw such detail far to thin looking for my eyes. So well done on those figures they look Smashing! Now that's an English word that i have not used for ages ,and it means excellent.__ and not just broken smashed up things. BB

You're right, Rosbif, they should be shakos. I considered head swaps but in all honesty liked the czapkas as it made them distinct! I read a fair bit about the head gear worn, and am pretty certain the czapkas came later. Most of the visual reference supports that.
I'm reasonably certain that the drummer's distinctive uniform came later as well but again, was lured by all those fine colours.

Really nice figures, Bill, a lovely natural look to them. I prefer to see the czapkas too for sheer novelty value.

I like it: a good scenery and wonderful painted Napoleonics. Will you add also some of the new polish Napoleonics to the old Waterloo figures? I presume that a combination of the different figures can be still more produce an interesting scene.
