Rolling Red Hoarde

Posted by panzerman825 on 18 Jul 2018, 09:52

I gave myself a challenge to take the very outdated Airfix T-34 and Soviet Infantry and bring them up to today's standards.
Image
The T-34 got quite a bit of extra detailing. I added grab handles, tank tools, and tow cables. Fine brass mesh was added to the engine deck.
Image
The tank commander figure was taken from a Fujimi T-34 kit. The fuel tanks also came from the spares box.
Image
Nearly every Airfix figure had short-molded weapons. I scratchbuilt replacement weapons out of thin styrene sheet.
Image
The tank and figures were painted with Vallejo acrylics.
Image
The base is cork subsurface covered with Woodland Scenics turf and ballast. The trees and shrubs are from JT Designs.

It's good to be back posting work in this fun forum. Thanks for viewing. Any comments or questions, feel free to ask. Happy modeling. Bill

Super scene and what a fantastic job on the old Airfix Classic. Brilliant.

The troops look lovely with some excellent conversions.

I personally think the mortar man jumping looks a bit stiff compared with the matchbox Panzer grenadier as a comparison but still great stuff.

A real ' feel' of the thing.

Very nice, a real snapshot in time. The figures look good the scenery is great and very nice paintwork on the tank, it looks very realistic.

This is the way I will see Dios !!!
The best Airfix T34 done I have ever seen. Only the kit track are the downside.
You do the best what is possible to do with these aged Airfix kit.
Get my respect.
I like very much the whole dynamic in the scene.
Surrounded by the trees and landscape.

God use of the pose from the Russian figure set.
Nice painting of it too.
With the firearms I get the same trouble and for the Japanese set too. Only a very old set of figures get some better quality of weapons. Nice job to replace it wit scratch.

:yeah:

And the 3,7 cm Pak suffer the consequences to deal with a T34.

You show no hope for the Heresgruppe Mitte (Army group center) 1944 in your Dio.
Next stop will be at Warsaw?

I love the rescue you performed on these beloved but flawed Airfix offerings. Thanks for sharing.
