Medieval Irish warband - Galloglass and kerns

Back to Medievals (the Ancients will have to wait). Here you are pictures of my medieval Irish warband, composed of a chieftain, galloglass as heavy infantry and kerns as light infantry to support them.

And kerns - local irishmen fighting as light infantry:

Nice stuff! I am not too knowledgable about that period. Did the kerns shave part of their heads for battle?

The Style is the called the Glib (glybbe) A "bowl" cut tilted forward -- long over the eyes and short in the back. Mainly worn by the soldiery. Wether the sculpts have bald or very short hair at the back would be difficult to sculpt. The style has been around a Long while and was probably very common across europe.

Thoses are really excellent!

Painting is great.
The faces and the chosen color for the clothes look right to me.
Also the skin sections suggest to be very vulnerable.
Also all metal parts are real steel !

Only the wood part of some weapons is a bit thick done by the modeller.
Nice pose of the figures.
The knight in the second pic remind me somehow with his helmet to the film, Lord of the rings.
An elven fighter in the very first battle scene in the beginning.

I agree, the knights with conic helmets might be converted into elves, I will probably try to do something like that one day (link to Coolminiornot, painter: Darklord, 2009):

I haven't really looked at these figures before but your splendid painting has caught my attention. A dynamic looking and intriguing group of figures and useful for not just Ireland.

My first thought was that he reminded me of the MacIan painting of MacDonald Lord of the Isles and, to my mind, that first picture could be the opening scene from MacBeth. Very interesting.
