Strelets Russian General Staff and Hospital

Posted by Marvin on 02 Mar 2019, 20:32

Well, I've been busy painting some personalities from the Crimean War of 1853-1856.

Strelets produced a number of big sets on the Crimean War about a decade ago. Each box contained a mixture of figures available as separate kits and also special edition figures. One of these big sets was the "Russian Command and Hospital" and I've been working on some of its special figures.

All great fun to do! If you're interested, I've more pics and a brief biography on each figure on my blog. :-D

Very nice work, The LHS has had a box of this set sitting on its shelves for the past 10 years. It's now marked down to a third of the original price. Might be a good purchase?

Marvin - I am impressed by your figure painting, again.
The color black, the gold, the beard, the smoke, the flag !
Very well done, Sir.

Utterly fantastic! Your horses are your usual show-stopper, but obviously you don't need horses to knock our socks off.

My favorite is Innocenti.

Very kind comments, everybody, and I'm really pleased you like them. I had great fun doing these. I always appreciate the way that Strelets are not afraid to produce some unusual figures or poses with lots of character in them.

Definitely, worth it at 1/3rd price, I'd say. :-) The set comes with Cossack infantry, grenadiers, sailors, naval artillery and Don Cossack cavalry as well as the special edition figures which there are still a good number remaining including dancing Cossacks, nurses, more religious figures and staff officers.

Much appreciated, fella. I found painting the non-military figures a really pleasant challenge and I think the Innocenti and the deacon are my favourites too.

really, really great works .... Did you reduce intentionally the color-intensity? Your figures have a certain "charme" like old photos with reduced colors-intensity.... They give me the feeling that they are just walked out these old photos .... really unique!

It is always a pleasure to see your work.
You show us that you can make something nice out of all figures.
You are a great painter.

Thank you, friend. Well, I guess it's just my painting style. I kind of prefer a more muted, natural look to my figures and hopefully it suits this kind of figure well?
