Revell's Guard Chasseurs a Cheval

Posted by Marvin on 13 Jun 2019, 23:02

Hello.

The 33rd (yes - I really should get out more) Napoleonic cavalry regiment I've painted is Revell's Chasseurs a Cheval of the Guard. Quite a rare set now, the sculpting is very delicately done and looks great. It doesn't make for an easy paint job for the modeller, but then I like a challenge! ;-)

More stuff on these on the blog if yer interested:

Finally, a comparison with Italeri's more exotically dressed version of the regiment:

Really nice job on those! Are the Italeri version of those men considered to be in parade dress?

wonderful job, Marvin. I have this great set too and planning to paint it by end of the year. So it's great to see your inspiring work. Where is the dismounted figure of the set?

Very nice indeed as always.

Personally I think the trimming in Aurora should be more orange in colour but that may be optical.

Best wishes,

Chris

Love them! Your rendition is amazing. Personally I hate this set but that is I think due to the condition if my figures. I bought them years ago and when I opened the set I found misshaped swords and faces that looked melted. Really of no use so I have shelved them for all of eternity.

Thanks fellas.

 Yes, I think so. They have the pelisse and the bag on their busby, etc. I suppose being escort to Napoleon they need to look their finest.

Oh, yes. I forgot about him!

Cheers mate. I think you dead right about the orange colour - I should have taken more notice of the box artwork (and I don't often say that). I only realised my error once they were painted and I kidded myself that the gold-yellow was just about warm enough a colour to pass.

Thanks Bramble! That's not good about you and Kekso's box. I didn't spot any melting troubles with my box. The faces were very subtly sculpted but otherwise in proportion?

Top-quality painting on one of my favorite Revell kits. You've hit all the details spot-on.

Absolutely splendid painting of a really quite magnificent looking regiment. Stunning looking figures once again, and the horses are so realistic I wonder how you prevent them wandering away at night.

Sorry to hear some folks had badly moulded figures, mine were all OK and I really like the poses in this set; I rank these and the Life Guards as two of the best cavalry sets ever. Painting this good makes them even better.

Another amazing unit. I have collected some more of these sets some 20 years ago. I like these figs like the Revell "Blues".

Are the green reinforced coveralls an 1806 era look?

Fantastic painting, as usual. Your horses are so well done, you probably need to start feeding them 1/72 scale hay.

Thanks MABO and Bluefalchion. :-)

With the number of horses I have painted, my stabling fees will be huge!

As for the overalls, I took the 100 Days uniform website for my details, so they should be 1815 vintage too.
