Bonaparte, was very impressed with his sea soldiers when in battle because they held their ground and were very reluctant to give it up. Trained to fight on board ships there really was no where to run anyway. Well that is my thought upon the subject of all those fighting guys anyway.
Above is showing them in campaign dress with overalls over their legs, the curved sabre and bayonet, and neat cut short jacket. All clean shaved except for N C O`s. The lighter blue for the trumpeter, and the interesting long coat worn by others is also shown too.
So all these splendid looking Guarde Marins are in their dress uniforms which is a fantastic painted sight.
The British bestowed their sea soldiers the title of
Royal Marines when serving upon Royal Navy ships. BB
