Actually this is an early war design.
Up to 24 vehicles were converted into the "Selbstfahrlafette auf Fahrgestell VOMAG 7 OR 660 mit 8,8cm Flak" in early 1940.
Just one of several attempts to mobilise the highly potent 8,8cm gun.
25 Sd.Kfz.8 were converted to "8,8cm Flak 18 auf schwerem Zugkraftwagen 12t" in 1939/40.
12 Sd.Kfz.9 were converted to "8,8cm Flak 37 auf s.Zgkw. 18t" in 1942.

When the 8,8cm gun finally equipped the Tiger I and highly effective 7,5cm guns became a common sight from 1942 onwards (PaK 40, Panther, StuG III or Panzer IV Ausf. F2 to J), the Wehrmacht was striving for better mobile AA-protection instead.
Thats why from 1943 onwards you can mount a 2cm or 3,7cm Flak on literally every vehicle halfway stable enough... .
