French general staff

As promised here are my french marshals and a divisional general I've been waiting so long to paint. Two of them are convertions as I mentioned in a previous post. It was nice to take a break from painting groups of units and focusing on a single mini each time, I had the luxury of spending more time on details and sharpen my skills. I gave much more importance on smoother transitions on main colours with many layers, like the faces, the blue of the uniforms, and of course the horses. Unfortunately I messed up on two of them, I believe it was because I primed them on windy days, and it really affected the quality, as you can probably see on Marshal Berthier and the italeri Marshal with the big hat. All in all though the result was good, and now I can't wait to paint the emperor himself, the bulletproof miniatures figurine, which I have delayed for a year because I wanted my painting to be at least mediocre. I hope you like these.

Very nicely painted Bendy. I really like your conversion work, especially the Marshall on the lighter brown horse. He’s very realistically animated I’d say.
When you start to get this level of painting you should go that little extra, and remove the mould lines with a very sharp knife. I fully appreciate that it’s not possible when it runs through a figure’s face but if it’s an arm or a leg it’s a relatively quick job.

Agreed on the desirability of removing the mould lines if possible. A breakthrough occurred for me when one of our wise modelers (I honestly forget who) mentioned that there was no need to remove the entire mould line in one stroke--rather a series of thin and precise cuts could get the job done with very little to no damage to the parts of the figure desired to remain behind.

Those are just beautiful! The faces are especially well done, but your subtle transitions of colour are masterfully handled. And I agree, individual officers give you an opportunity to go that extra mile with the painting. Just superb!

My favorite parts are the trim around the collars, neck and sleeves, as well as the equipment. Outstanding level of detail!

Excellent work Bendy. Berthier's face is sublimely painted and your dark areas in gold are done very nicely. If upping your skills was the goal I would say mission accomplished. You might consider painting the horses eyes as it's easily within your capabilities.

Trust me, these figures are certainly not mediocre but excellent . The horses are particularly well done. I am painting this set myself at this moment and I can only hope my figs will come out as good as yours!
