Many years ago, maybe 8 or 9, I began with a very ambitious plan of making huge DBA Punic Wars armies. My idea was to make 4 of each (Roman and Carthaginian) and some allies. After painting 1 Iberian army, 3 Gallic armies and more or less half of the Roman and Carthaginians I needed, I get bored and give it up. After so many years of watching these armies uncompleted, let’s see if I can manage to finish them now. One thing that push me up is that many of the Republican Roman Hat figures I got had deteriorate to the point of breaking under the minor pressure (begin to happen with some of my Revell as well) and I would like to finish them before I lose them all.
So, here you have part of my 4 DBA Polybian Roman (275BC – 105BC).
These are the Command bases (Cavalry), the Cavalry bases and the Psiloi bases (Velites).
I guess Hastati, Princeps and Triari will follow soon…
I hope you like them and many thanks for stopping by…
Hi Konrad, Usually October is a very nice month here in Catalunya. Warm but not too hot. But this last summer has been (very unusual here) very rainy. Last weekend we break some raining records (meaning it was raining for three days like cats and dogs). I guess we got back to normal weather and you don’t have to expend your full holidays clad in a raincoat.
A DBA Polybian Roman army needs 6 x 4blades bases. I made 3 of them Hastati and the other 3 Princeps. Triari are spears. Because I’m doing 4 of such armies, here we have 12 Hastati bases, with 4 figures each.
Yes, I meet Konrad last week but to his annoyance we speak little about painting figures and much about politics (my true passion ). He didn’t run away do, so I think wasn’t that bad .
Here you have the Princeps, second infantry line on Republican Roman manipular battle tactics. With these, I’ve completed the full blades bases (24!) I needed. Just 8 spears bases (Triari) and I’ll finish with them.
I don’t know if you guys have the same problem, but all my Hat figures for the period (Romans, Carthaginians and Allies) are falling a part in pieces under the minor pressure. I do know this is a problem with plastic figures but I didn’t expect to happen with so “recent” figures. My old Airfix and Esci are perfectly bendable after more than 30 years.
Great mix of Hat and Zvezda figures! I have been hesitant to mix them in the same units but you got a great effect. I go for a more uniform orderly appearance for formed infantry. Too many years in Napoleonic's I guess. I'm also guessing you use some kind of dip process? MinWax or ink wash?
