DBA Egypt-Army I/22

Posted by MABO on 07 Jun 2020, 15:28

After a long time I can present something new from my workbench. And keeping in mind that we had our FIGZ-Meeting today, it is a good moment to add something to the bring and show area. ;-)

This is my newly painted DBA Egypt-Army I/22b. I started with this project in Lingen where we had a FIGZ Promo in Januar

Image

First part: The General in this case the Pharao (LCh). I tried to build bases, where the chariots cross a field with the remnants of an even older culture. I am not sure if this really works. When looking at it I am not sure if the bases are overfilled...? Cool is the Lion which is side by side during the attack. Figures are from Caesar.

Here you see the 3x 2-horse 2-crew chariots (LCh) Caesar as well.

Next part of this army are 3x spearmen (4Bd)

The figures are from Schilling Miniatures. Masters by Frank Germershaus. I love them and I used nearly everthing from his range as you will see. And I would like to mention that the service of Ulrike Schilling is top notch. So a pleasure to buy stuff there: https://www.schilling-figuren.de/produkt-kategorie/1-72/altertum/aegypter/

The army of New Kingdom Egypt is famous for it's archers as well. Here you see 2x 4Bw from different Caesar sets:

Image

As an alternative not from the DBA list but just for me, I based some Caesar Nubian bowmen as well:

The Guardsmen of the Pharao where mentioned in the DBA list as well. The sherden can be build as 3 or 4 Bd.

A very fancy unit is the Lybian Warband (3Wb) from Caesar:

Btw: As a source for research I can recommend the relevant Osprey books but also https://www.zinnfigur.com/Buecher-Medien/Zeughaus-Verlag/Heere-Waffen/Schertler-O-Text-Lunyakov-S-Illustrationen-Die-Heere-im-Alten-Orient.html

In German only and the famous Tessloff series:

The last unit for the 1/22b version of the Egypt army are the psilois.

Here you can choose between Nubian archers, Syrian, Lybian or Bedouin javelinmen. Even Caesar can not provide Syrian fighters and I have no idea where to get some in 1/72, so I have only build the other options:

Hi Jan,
you do well in reminding us of our bemissed FIGZ. Next year we'll catch up.. Don't know yet how, but we will.
Now to your figures. Great paints and great army. You have been really busy.
The lion is nice, no, impressive. Hardly believable the little go actually supposed to "hold" this giant animal with a small rope.
I am sure you have alreay some wargaming planned.
I will be happy o see these in live some day
Best wishes
Michael

And just as a gag or cause fear in my Italian counterpart on the DBA table, I used the Dark Alliance Mummies to build 2x (4Bd) speacial infantry force:

What you need as well to play is a camp, here it is:

Image

Image

For the tent and most of the camp followers and sentries I used the Schilling range, but also some Caesar ancient civillians.

What is still missing are the terrain pieces for the gaming table. And one special part I would like to build is the Build up Area (BUA). This goes without saying because The Schilling range provides cool parts for a camp, as the temporary shield walls and the Pharao-Tent.

This is only a test to place all the people in the camp that are painted already.

To have different options, I also painted the Egypt-Army I/22a. This has some other units you can use:

First the overview:

Image

You have also the chariots and the archers, but you can choose another archer unit or some heavy axemen (4Bd):

Image

These are Caesar and one Zvezda.

As psiloi skirmish archers or javelinmen are possible. For the second option I used Zvezda figures as well. They are to big compared to Schilling and Caesar, but for DBA it is ok for me.

And as you have seen for sure there are three units still missing: These are 3x 3Bd. I have to finish and to base them.

Image

That's it. Next step will be they corresponding army of the Hittite Empire I/24 a+b.

Also for these armies Schilling figures have infantrymen:

And the chariots and some other units I will take from Caesar. But you have to be paitent with me... :sweatdrop: :sweatdrop: :sweatdrop:

I am not so in this timeline.
The camp is nice.

But the eye catcher for me are your Dark Alliance Mummies.
Variations of green. Sparse but effective use of other colors to the Mummies.

:yeah:
