Wow, Rich, those Chevau Legers or Gendarmes look stunning...just the same than all the previous units. ;-)

Excellent work and the painting details are superb.

This period is really being showcased by your work in my opinion.

Best wishes ,

Chris

The Robert Hall book (and his others) are a mine of information, although sadly the French cavalry book is somewhat difficult to source these days and expensive when you find it. It is one of those books that I did not buy when it was first published...and now wish that I had! But thanks to Will for posting these colour images.

Thank you all for your kind feedback!

Thanks for posting the image of uniforms Will. Those images keep coming up when I search for WSS uniforms on the internet, but it had never said where they come from. Do you have all the books?

Regrettably no, only this one and the Hessian army. About 15 years ago I used to have access to them but that was way before I started on this project.

I have finally got around to basing my next units of completed cavalry...First up, a squadron of French Gendarmes (Bourguignons squadron). This squadron was involved in the famous part of the battle around Blenheim in which they were beaten back (maybe even routed?) by a smaller force of British cavalry. The Gendarmes were considered one of the elite units within the French force, so their defeat very likely had a damaging effect on the morale of the rest of the army that day. These have come from the brilliant Strelets Gardes Du Corps set-you will have to ignore the lace on the front of the jackets which I have just painted over...The crossbelt should also be buff at this point, coloured belts were much later, however, artistic license!

Thanks for looking as always!

These are really lovely, I'm enamored of your bugler. I also like the way you get the faces and eyes Rich. Really well done.

Another terrific addition to your army, Rich. These look really fine - I find red uniforms are some of the most gratifying to paint, for some reason, and yours look fantastic.

A new fantastically painted unit for your WSS collection, Rich. All uniforms are amazing, but I love specially the trumpeter's one.

The painting is beautiful and the research is impressive. I can see you've picked out the little buttons on the uniforms, bravo!

A bit too shiny for my taste but still nicely painted.
