Nicely done, and a Gold Medal for productivity. The fusiliers/grenadiers look good, and work equally well as either since the caps are not too tall in the Strelets sculpts - which is correct anyway for this period.

Humbrol 60 is a good colour, and looks fine here. I use Vallejo 'Heavy Red' ( a crimson colour) as a base, and keep this as the main tone for some of my English/Scottish units; others have a Vallejo flat red over-laid. But as I am painting Dutch infantry at the moment (greys and blues, with just a couple of red-coated Scottish mercenary units) I'm pleased to report that my stocks of red are still OK.

This latest pair of French units was made up from all my remaining Strelets infantry both French and British. I created the Greder Suisse and Greder Allemande.


The colour of the Greder Allemande uniform is described as Turquin blue and as Turquin is a grey-blue marble I settled on using Vallejo blue-grey but it was a little pale so I added so turquoise to emphasise to blue.


This is the last of the infantry, now onto the cavalry and whatever Strelets release next for the period

A fine job on these French 'foreign' regiments, Will. The notes on your interpretation of 'Turquin blue' are helpful and this colour on the coats of Greder Allemande looks perfect.

All being well we will be seeing the new WoSS sets from Strelets arrive at retailers before too long.

I agree. You just need a nice long table for those linear formations! And plenty of space out on the flanks for those massed cavalry combats that characterised many battles of the period.

Trouble is I need a lot more cavalry and Strelets have not produced it yet. I could paint the British Cavalry as French (and may still do so), but I'm holding on till later this year for a full parade.

A good looking array of horsemen here, nicely painted once again. Well done!

The 'personality' figures that come with many of the Strelets sets are very useful, and the 'Marshal Villars at Denain' figure is a case in point. I have yet to model the pose into Villars on foot - so far the only one of these I have painted is a more junior officer in command of my Regiment de Picardie Grenadiers - but I have two unpainted figures in this pose so one will eventually see the light of day based much as Will has here. Pleasing to see that the sabre-wielding grenadier now has a role as a bodyguard!

The wait for more Strelets WoSS cavalry sets goes on, although hopefully the Maison du Roi Gardes du Corps set will be amongst the forthcoming summer releases. In the absence of more Strelets line cavalry, I am pressing figures from my stash of Zvezda GNW cavalry into service, and they work pretty well as French, Bavarians or Spanish. I hope to be able to post some Bavarian cavalry based on Zvezda figures here before too long...although holidays and summer household jobs are taking priority right now!

For my test game I added units from various "imperial" armies to the mix,


Mainly Bavarian for the French but I found I had a lot of red coats to help the British

Following this with great interest. Tempted to buy these figures and start with The Great Northern War, but I already have too many eras going and looking here I can at lest see the figures even if in other colours.
