Waterloo 1815 Prussian Death's Head Hussars

Its the fourth regiment in my Nappy Cavalry Project for 2015: the Prussian Death's Head Hussars by Waterloo 1815!

They're beautifully, if slightly innacurately, sculpted. I 'converted' the two flag bearers (Prussian Hussars didn't carry flags) and the spare trumpeter too.

I really enjoyed painting up this set, to be honest, and I'm looking forward to having a go sometime at the other set of Prussian Hussars that Waterloo 1815 have produced.








These are the two figures with the flags removed. I like to think they're patting their horses. Even Death's Head hussars have a soft side.

Very nicely painted troopers but must echo the sentiments of, i think it was vellek, who said your horses were stunning. They really are and i would dearly love to know what varnish you use to leave them a very nice flat matt!

Do you know I think it was actually YOU who some time ago put me on to the varnish I use anyway?!

Without wanting to bore you... I used to use Vallejo's matt varnish which was great for a while. However, it's not been very good in recent times for whatever reason and looks a little satin. So now I use Daler Rowney, which is superb. I was so delighted, I even blogged about it! And you must be the anonymous gentleman I referred to and thanked in that post.

And how do you use it? Mixed with colours or on top of them after painting as protection?

Yes, that's the stuff!

I just slap it on afterwards as protection. It seems to really bring out the colours very nicely.
