Early German - DBA II/47

Posted by Mr. Andrea on 29 Jul 2015, 20:41

I finally completed by DBA Early German army. First time I use speed painting and dipping using Army Painter quickshade. Not really good result, but good enough for the battlefield and in record time.

Other ugly pictures in my blog http://flowersinyourcannons.blogspot.de/2015/07/early-germans-dba-ii47-army-completed.html. I definitively have to improve the quality of my pictures.

Not so ugly in my eyes. Can you tell us more about the technic in detail? And what is the origin of the figures? I like the horsemen.

Thanks Kekso. Thanks Jan. For the technique I relied on this tutorial by The Army Painter http://www.thearmypainter.com/videogallery.php?videoid=3. It tells it much better than I could. The only downside is the terrible glossy effect that the quickshade leaves on the miniatures, which requires 1-2 layers of matt varnish to get rid of it.

Yes, the cavalry is just nice, very dynamic, great poses. I should have honored it with a better painting, but I had not time enough and wanted to finish the army. It is by Art Miniaturen http://www.schmaeling.de/antike/kelten-und-germanen/index.php.
The ordinary infantry is by Caesar Miniatures. I should have gone for that by Art Miniaturen, but I had to limit costs, and Caesar offers the best poses at cheaper price. Too much naked men for the region, though  It is end of July, and it's 11-12 degrees here in Bonn :angry3: :angry1: :angry2:

I think the quick-shade technique worked pretty well in this circumstance. Especially on the bare-chested warriors. Doubt they would appear on the battlefield freshly scrubbed.
