Airfix Afrika Korps

Posted by vellek on 03 Aug 2015, 22:12

Fresh from the duel with Dalibor (Kekso), here are some of the other figs I painted along with the grenade thrower as I experimented with DAK uniform colors and shading. The various pants, shorts, tunics, etc., were done by mixing generic acrylics after many Google photo searches. The weapons are all painted with Testors enamels.

All figures are superbly painted. My favorite is the kneeling figure in the last photo. Great job.

These are the figures from my childhood and don't they still look lovely.

Fantastic painting and a testament indeed to the high standard Airfix set when they made this, possibly their best set ever.

Lovely.

I have to agree with that sentiment. So many great poses, and such detailed sculpting! Dali and I had a tough time deciding on one figure to paint.

Thanks to all for looking.

I cannot agree with that sentiment! For me the Airfix Afrika Korps of my youth is:

The variety of uniform colors and shades works very well. Love those classic Aurfix figures. Just need a.sandy base and some vehicles for a great diorama.

Nice variety of colors, there are many possibilities when you consider the sun bleaching and uniforms borrowed from Italians or captured from the allies. You have done nice work here.

I still have them. Also the German WWII Infantry first type. But over the last 40 years they suffered casualities. My childhood sand-box chewed some of them. Others were missed in Action from Bombardement with new-year-crackers...
I remember endless battles with the airfix-highlanders ;-D
