Zvezda French Imperial Old Guard

Posted by Captain Jozef on 12 Aug 2015, 21:51

Hello all! These figures are the Zvezda French Imperial Old Guard Grenadiers. This is one of the best sets that I own and certainly one of the best Napoleonic sets out there. These were painted several months ago, so they may look a bit rough. Nevertheless, I had great fun painting these figures. I only painted half of them, as I moved on to other things once this unit was done. However, I’m looking to finish the remaining figures, so feel free to give tips and/or criticize. I’m always looking to improve my work, so the more the better!

Maybe paint the sideburns and moustasches. And some wash. Nice to see them!

They are lovely figures and your painting has made them a great spectacle.

I agree with Gunnar about the wash. My first instinct is always abject horror at applying a 'dirty' wash to some lovely painted figures. But I recommend having a go with a figure. Splash some pale grey wash over the white bits and when dry add highlights afterwards by gently dry-brushing on some white again. The details become clearer and the textile of the uniform can look more natural somehow. Experiment to see what works for you.

Remember though, that they're your figures, so ultimately stick to whatever makes you happy in this hobby. ;-) And these are certainly looking really good.

I fell in love with this set when it first came out. I like your painting very much Captain Jozef.
In a friendly way of advice,I will explain what I do after painting some of mine. The camera is my best tool and I use it well. I do a quick photo shoot, and then when viewing the blown up pictures on my P C,I can see where the cords need to be tidied up by painting the bearskin leaving a crisp sharp edge to those very awkward tiny white cords. As always very Good to see your Work! BB
