British Heavy Dragoons Waterloo1815

Posted by Kekso on 18 Aug 2015, 12:13

I won't write much about this set except I won't buy it in any time soon or maybe never again.
It's not that bad but it simply doesn't offer that much. So, here are (poor) pictures of painted figures.

For those who wants to know more about figures you can find topic HERE.

@Marvin, yes... some riders don't fit horses nicely. There is 1-2mm gap. It seems that officer (figure that I tested) is only one that fits nicely. :-D

Nicely painted figures good sir and I compliment you on your technique and stoicism in light of the very limited variety of both horse and trooper. And that's without mentioning the poor fitting of rider and mount.

It is truly hard to believe that in this day and age companies continue to rip us off with such lame offerings especially when they have the chance to offer something that no-one else is producing.

Don`t put yourself down, that's some Splendid Work Dalibor.
I think four of the Dragoons need a head twist to improve the poses. Two Dragoons with Trumpets in a box set of 12 ain`t good. I am wondering what blucher1815red thinks about this set? For once the correct horse furniture, and the tails have been cut short which is good.
I`m not biting at the bit to buy to many of these ,even though they are now available at Model Hobbies .BB

I thought I had enough British dragoons till I saw your efforts. This set is on my list....I hope I can do them justice.

@Paul. Plastic is very hard so I don't believe any head twisting would work. Even with pre heating.

Bravo! :headbang: I knew you'd be able to get the best out of them. :-D

You've also managed to get the figures on the horses without signs of drastic destruction of the horses flanks, something I had to resort to! The hard plastic really doesn't allow for any head twisting or similar work on the figs either.

Waterloo 1815s set isn't a total disaster but still a bit of a disappointment and requires a lot skill and hard work to get them to look as good as you've managed. I'd recommend the Waterloo 1815 Prussian Hussars sets to restore some faith in the manufacturer. I was really impressed with the quality of that sculpting. http://www.plasticsoldierreview.com/Review.aspx?id=1330

Once again, well done. Your horses, as always, are really impressive and the riders painting is so crisp and clean. My own humble versions of these figures are nearly painted so I'll be working on their horses soon...

Thank you Dalibor, that's Interesting information on the hard plastic these figures are made of.
Which means its a good thing the tails were modelled short, because cutting them would mean the probability they would snap off completely. Which leaves the question of dodgy swords that break off easy. So the swords would be quite easy to break which ain`t good news. This might well be one for my Cavalry Conversion topic on this forum. Yes, I almost lost a snapped sword which required some glue to save it!

Yes fantasticly painted, but I am also disappointed that there are two bugglers and two dying dragoons in a set of 12.

But thank you again Dalibor for review and presentation

In spite of all the downplay on this kit, this is an impressive display. The brushwork is to your usual high standard, and the thread is quite informative as to how much money I'll spend on this set when it comes around.

Even with the harder plastic you might be able to rotate a few heads by the cut-pin-and-glue method. That's just IMO

Thank you all guys. You're too kind. And again, I'm sorry for poor photos. They really look better in real lice. Here you can't see highlights on red parts for example.

Hum... You sound ambivalent, my dear Kekso: do you like them after all?
Because I see many opportunities usuing these figures.
Nothing a little green stuff couldn't fix.
Thanks for putting paint on them: that gives us a chance to see what can be achieved.
So you achieved beautifully.

Well, every set has its pros and cons. I would give this one something between C+ and B- :-D

Hi Kekso,

You have done a fantastic job of painting these figures. I don't have this set yet, but after seeing your work on them I'd be more than tempted to buy them should I see them. :-)

Some of these figures are wonderfully dynamic and look very impressive after your paintwork.

Regards,
Karl.
