Nappy Cavalry Project - Boney and friends

Posted by Marvin on 13 Dec 2015, 21:55

Greetings everybody. I'm currently working on getting some images of all the cavalry regiments gathered together that I've painted in this year's project.

To review these regiments, I have painted a VIP with his escort. He's greatly looking forward to reviewing all those troops, as you can see by his eager expression. :)

Images of the final parade of all the regiments to follow soon...

A worried Général de Brigade Charles Lefebvre-Desnouettes pats his horse. "All those regiments from different nations paraded together? I've got a bad feeling about this, Palomo old fella..." (His faithful mount paws the ground in agreement).

:yeah:

Your work is a delight to behold Marvin!
I would have been tempted to add a Marshall or two with him....... just to have helped me escape the tedium demon but fortunately we don't all think alike!
Love the dismounted general in the last picture and it goes without saying that I love your horses the most!
Can't wait to see the grand parade......
Congratulations for your fantastic year of painting............... and thank you for showing it all here on Bennos!

Great set up, and again the horses are stunning. Saving myself a good seat for the parade to come.

Thank you for all the words of support, guys. I don't think I'd have got to the end of the project this year without all that encouragement.

That parade is now taking up space on the kitchen table, so I better get them lined up soon or there will be no family meals for a while...

Unfortunatelly, it is impossible. Most of my Nappies went to seek better life all over the world (USA, Spain, France... even Sweden) and some were donated to my modelling club.

I've seen several of your posts in this series here and you certainly have shown us some fabulous looking painted soldiers. But I have to say that what they are mounted on just might be the most realistic looking bunch of horses I've seen. And now we get to see them all again, it must be Christmas.

Thanks Graeme. I think my horses have developed over this project but I'm still learning as I go. I had half a mind re-do Marengo, but I think he looks ok now and this project needs to end sometime! :sweatdrop:

Hello!
It's the nitpicker again with some good-meant criticism.

The last figure is just a trooper. If it would be the general, he should rather look like this:
Image
I'm not that sure if one figure from this set would match the criteria to create that guy, perhaps the older Revell set has some more suitable figures for that.

I noticed some mistakes on the troopers. For example, the stripe on the trousers' sides. Dunno if you painted that stripe on all troopers' trousers anyways just because the pictures don't show them from the 'right' angle. And the boots: tassels and upper rim in yellow. ;-)

Italeri missed to equip the guard chasseurs with a sabretache. Adding them (modelled with greenstuff or just a tissue paper/wood glue mixture) would pimp these figures up. Personally, I have my doubts about these Italeri models because they all look as if someone smashed his fist down of them while the figures were still soft - all hats, busbys and shakos are only 2/3rd of their originial height. :(

What I really like, are your horses. They look really good. (there's a black colour smear below the breast cord of the horse with the dismounted trooper, btw ;-) )

 Hello and welcome nitpicker! ;-)

Thanks for the pic, that's interesting. There's not a really great set in 1/72 plastic in my opinion for this important regiment. That figure as "General Lefebvre Desnouettes" wasn't intended literally but was just a joke, though that info has got me thinking about converting him maybe...

The trouser stripes - Only painted on the standing figures actually, though inspiration for the painting was taken from this site's description of the uniform (see bottom right)? http://centjours.mont-saint-jean.com/uniformes_uniteFR.php?uniformes=60&drapeau=

It's been a long project :sweatdrop: and I've just worked with the sculpting where possible on this set (hence stripes on standing figs but none on horsemen!) and not worried too much about accuracy, though your feedback will help me if I return to improve them. Oh, and the other mounted chasseurs also seem to be missing their guns, I notice!

Cheers! Marvin.
