Large diorama

Posted by Kekso on 06 Dec 2016, 12:55

Hi guys. Yesterday I visited fortress in Sisak (Croatia) where I saw one huge diorama. I guess it is about 8 meters wide. Unfortunately, I only had my mobile phone and visibility was not that good. So probably you won't be able to recognize details, sorry . At least you'll get impression how large it is. Diorama represents Battle of Sisak in 1593. where Christian army defeated Ottoman forces.

Diorama has access from only one side so many details remain invisible. You can imagine how hard is to look at 1/72 figures from 1, 2 or more meters distance. Some better pictures and wip can be found on this forum link:

Sorry, it is only in Croatian.

Bah! I though Kekso had himself produced a large diorama for a moment there...

Never mind, an impressive scene nonetheless. Great to see the construction of this massive diorama via the link too. :yeah:

Thanks for sharing.

Looks like this diorama is situated inside one of the round towers of the Ottoman fortress thats re-created in the dio. So: the perfect lokation for such a dio. I like the huge design of all this :-D

Watching that Croatian link it looks like we first see a rough design or an older diorama with figures like toys, covering all of the towerfloor.

Later, when a diorama platform is build, only halve of the room is used and the landscape looks more professional.

Kekso can you explain us, non Croatian speakers, what happened here?

Those horsemen look weird. Like they have used re-dressed WW2 American infantry and put them on cowboy horses. Probably a bigger scale from the first, larger diorama.

These remind me of the masses of plasticine figures Alex made as a boy during the Soviet period.

Is this work in progress or are those faces and hands still green?
On the other hand we see a lot of 'real' Ottoman infantry figures:

Judging by the circular sprue's these must be Eastern European piracy copies. What do you think, Kekso?

The castle walls look, to the contrary, very professional, it looks like 3D printed:

@Mr.Cryns text in Croatian doesn't gives answers to your questions. I can only confirm that fortress is 3D printed. People who made this diorama usually make armor and airplane models so high level of "professionalism" isn't expected in this case.

I think back then very few people did 1 72 scale figures in Balkans. I asked one guy who is much older than me to tell me history of miniature modeling in our region, he said that back then people who did model were mostly airplane sections and that there was some competition in Slovenia, . They introduced historical diorama in competition much, much later in the Balkan...
Anyway great dio, a big one with many soldiers. Only thing I am interested is which material is that white board everybody is using to make frame around diorama.
