1/72 Tachanka. Russian Civil War 1918-22. by Alexminiatures

Hi, friends!

Last autumn I got small masterpiece. It was russian Tachanka in 1/72 scale by Alexminiatures.

During WW1 and following years many ancient armours reappered in new appearance. Unlike WW1, Russian Civil War had the character of a maneuverable war. This factor reborned real war chariot of XX century - tachanka. It was civil four horse-drawn cart with MG. Tachanka was very effective in warfare in russian south steppes. It was used by the White, the Red army and Father Mahno's anarchists, especially.

The model by Alexminiatures is very detailed and has many fine parts. Three crewmen belongs to the Red Army. But it's easy to change them for the White Army and Mahno.

Its a lovely vignette!
Figures and the chariot are very dynamic....
but the painting is wonderful, the white horse is my favorite. Good job with lights and shadows, also the photos are very good .

By the way, there were so many interesting things during RCW. For example, "Red hussar" and White Army's "Color Units". In my mind, armies of Civil War used fantastic uniform combinations which were unusual for european troops after 1915-1916 years/

I have a RCW project in progress including a scratchbuilt tachanka carriage but it is for gaming so nowhere near as detailed as that work of art I'm using wheels and horses from Napoleonic wagons with seated figures converted from Preiser WW2 Russian tank riders and others. For Makhno's units some Strelets figure conversions (WW1 winter Russians, RCW Winter Red Army, RCW Red Cavalry and WW1 Russian Dragoons). For Bolsheviks, converted Pegasus WW2 Russians in greatcoats with budenovka hats from Strelets and Orion as well as Orion and Strelets cavalry. For Whites, Zvezda and HaT WW1 Russians. Putilov artillery from HaT

Durruti, it's good idea make RCW conversions from WW2 russians. It's possible to use Cossack cavalry by Revell. Also, White and Red Army had a lot of british uniform and ammunition. And it's actually to add british soldiers with minimal changes.
RCW is very interesting period, because opponents dressed inconceivable uniform cimbinations. For example, some times ago I read information about one of the Red cavalry regiments. Each squadron had its own types of uniform based on uniform of russian dragoons, russian hussars, german uhlans, hungarian hussars, and austrian infantry (!). Of course, it wasn't full uniform suits, but soldiers had main details.

True, I looked at the Revell Cossacks and some are usable but it is a big pain to carve away all the PPSh SMGs Strelets do some WW1 Kuban/Terek Cossacks but I don't like the sculpting. I much prefer to convert their Crimean War Terek Cossacks (Plastoon infantry too) with the traditional Caucasus Cherkeska coat still worn in the RCW. They basically need the headgear replacing with papakha fur hats and the firearms changed to look more like a Mosin-Nagant.

Yes, lots of British uniforms supplied but most of the available British figures have lots of heavy packs and other stuff for trench warfare like gas-mask pouches and I read that this perhaps wasn't evident so much in the RCW? Grateful for your input on that.

For tanks and armoured cars I have a resin Austin-Putilov from Cromwell Models but also found this wonderful resource of free card models to download with tanks like the British Mark V, Whippet and lots of armoured cars used in the RCW:

Durruti, You are right. There wasn't trench warfare during RCW. Chemical weapon were used once time by Red Army during Antonov's peasantry uprising in 1920-1921.
About British figures, in my mind, HaT Set 8292 British Infantry (Early) is suitable for RCW.
It's wonderful idea with paper tanks - fast and easy
