And now the Portuguese are coming!

Posted by Bill Slavin on 12 Apr 2018, 23:25

For my birthday back in February this year (that's okay, lots of people forgot) I treated myself to an order of lead figures with Hagen Miniatures in Germany. There are virtually no Portuguese available in plastic 1/72 (some Emhar figures, but not really a set that excites me) so it was fun to grab this order. Having married into a Portuguese family and spent many vacations travelling Portugal, it was also with a sense of obligation that I took on this project.
This is the first time I have ordered from Hagen, and the shipment arrived promptly. There were a few miscasts in the group but I contacted the company and they kindly sent replacement figures. I found the figures' poses beautifully done - the artillery especially is very fine sculpting. The cavalry horses' heads are a bit on the large size but the horses are full of dynamic energy.
So here is what I have painted to date, a regiment of Portuguese line infantry, some cavalry and three stands of cannon. I have two more regiments to paint, some command figures and then I will have my Portuguese army ready to fight beside my British, already waiting in the wings.

Well Bill, I can see why you'd be so pleased to receive these - lovely figures. The background doesn't hurt either, a great scene especially with the building. Are there figures available to produce some brown coated Cacadores too?

Perhaps my favourites are the artillery which look really nice, guns and gunners both.

And now I've got my eyes on those cavalry figures too... ;-)

Very nice indeed Bill.

I use Hagen and have found them to be very professional as a company.

Lovely painting and settings.

Best wishes,

Chris

Hagen Figs are great. And you painted them very good. Love the Cavalry and the Infantry Command.

Thanks, all. Yes, there are caçadores available but weren't in this order. Something for the future!
The Hagen miniatures are very nice. I wish my painting was better able to do them justice - I find dark blue a hard colour to work with!

Hi Bill,

A Lovely set of figures for your Peninsular games, they look great amongst your scenery. Where did the building come from?

Thanks,

Pete

Great looking figures and very nicely painted. And, once again in a splendid landscape.

Most welcome allies for your British troops i would think.
