Actually this is an early war design.
Up to 24 vehicles were converted into the "
Selbstfahrlafette auf Fahrgestell VOMAG 7 OR 660 mit 8,8cm Flak" in early 1940.
Just one of several attempts to mobilise the highly potent 8,8cm gun.
25 Sd.Kfz.8 were converted to "
8,8cm Flak 18 auf schwerem Zugkraftwagen 12t" in 1939/40.
12 Sd.Kfz.9 were converted to "
8,8cm Flak 37 auf s.Zgkw. 18t" in 1942.
When the 8,8cm gun finally equipped the Tiger I and highly effective 7,5cm guns became a common sight from 1942 onwards (PaK 40, Panther, StuG III or Panzer IV Ausf. F2 to J), the Wehrmacht was striving for better mobile AA-protection instead.
Thats why from 1943 onwards you can mount a 2cm or 3,7cm Flak on literally every vehicle halfway stable enough... .
Excellent paint-job on this Vomag!
Is it the Roden kit?
