My growing Swiss Guard halberdiers collection

We all know that here in the forum there are some members well known by their specialization on some particular subjects (for example, Wiking with his flying machines, Konrad with his Romans, Dad's Army with his Asterix figures, etc.).

I suppose that I could be known by my specialization on the Swiss Vatican Guard.

It's true that I have several different halberdier figures from it in my collection, though not all of them are strictly model figures.

A great figure from Revell, Peter, but I think that, at 1:16 scale, is a little big for my taste.

The Revell one might be the next project after finishing the dio, you are actually working on, Santi!

MABO, I'm afraid that the dio is in a waiting period. I just finished another figure, but the rest will have to wait, because I’m working now on a new 1/72 car. I’m fascinated with this new aspect of the hobby, recently discovered.

I will never forget my dedication to the Swiss Guard, Konrad. I have not only to finish the half-done diorama, but also to make a converted Popemobile at Peter's request.

Just goes to show, if a nation creates a colorful and famous unit, assigns them to guard the Pope, and leave their uniforms and equipment unchanged for centuries, then the miniature collecting public will go wild for them.

Well, as most people know, the current uniform of the Swiss Guard hasn't come to the present day with that aspect directly since the Renaissance period. Although it appears to be based on some ancient paintings, the current design dates from 1914, when its commander Jules Repond designed it with that inspiration. I agree that these soldiers are a very precious collector’s item.

I think it's a good idea, BB. I found mine at a toy fair that used to be held two Saturdays a month in different shopping malls in Madrid. Unfortunately, due to the coronavirus pandemic, it has been suspended for several months.
