Japanese bridge with Warrior Monks

Hello everybody!

After the 2020 Advent Calendar, I realised that I needed some new scenery elements. A few months ago, I discovered a 20mm range of laser cut MDF model kits (Sarissa Precision Ltd) including japanese houses and other elements.
I decided to start with a simple kit, a Japanese bridge, which allows me to display some Warrior Monks painted some times ago. Here you are the result:

That is true, but we must admit that they are difficult to paint. And, to say the truth, I never dared to paint my Zvezda Samurai because I'm not sure I'm good enough to paint them well. That's why I began with Redbox Sohei (easier).

I realised that I forgot to explain something. I certainly found my inspiration in Japanese woodblock prints, particularly those from the end of the Edo period. My favourite artist is Utagawa Kuniyoshi, this is what he designed:





These prints represent a fight between a young boy named Yoshitsune, and a warrior monk named Benkei, during the 12th century. Yoshitsune became a famous general, and Benkei his most faithful ally.

Please note that the bridge is painted Vermilion

I'm actually curious about this; what seems difficult about painting Samurai in particular? Is it the ropework on the armour? I just think the multicoloured combination of rope and plate, particularly on armours layered by rope can demand fine detail work but other than that I can't think of what makes them particuarly difficult.

I think you could paint them well. This isn't empty flattery, I think with your standard of painting they would come out excellently.
