"Rio Grande"

Posted by Egbert on 31 May 2022, 09:22

Hello my dear friends and model makers,

“Rio Grande is now complete, after almost 17 months of construction.
Here are the pictures of the finished diorama.

As in the film, the scene shows US cavalry attacking the mission church to free the children imprisoned there.

17 months seems like a long time, but it was definitely worth the wait! Great to see this!

That's a lot of work, terrific work, lovingly done. The building is top notch and you can feel the action in the scene - it looks as if you have been very faithful to the scene from the movie that inspired this.

Wonderful stuff, it may have taken a long time but the result is an amazing diorama, I love the cavalry figures especially, one of my favourites since childhood!

A masterpiece. It did win a gold medal at the "Dioramica" competition. And you can see here why.

Oh, this is utterly enchanting, wow! You've always made fantastic dioramas and this is no exception, I love the attention to detail and research done, the figures are great, the ground is photorealistic, this is a true masterpiece!

Egbert, a masterpiece from the true conversion king.

The building, landscape and groundwork is excellent.

The troops are lovely as are the wagon teams.

I initially thought with all that gunfire they might be a bit agitated but you have modelled them true to the film.

Truly a monument to Mr Brittles and his men.

Best wishes,

Chris

Indeed, the result is absolutely impressive!

And 17 months actually doesn't seem extremely long to me, in particular for a scene which is that complex and includes a complete scratch-built church ... I have projects that are at the "WIP" stage for much longer now, with no end in sight...

Hello Egbert,
"it is done" - another Western story of yours in a really wonderful dio. Like all of it, the figure modifications, the scenery, the painting, the facial and body expression you achieve.
All of it? Just one problem - probably because I haven't seen this particular movie. If the Apachees are the badies, why do most of the soldiers turn their backs on them and shoot at some imaginary foe outside of the dio?
Please forgive me my squibble

Yes indeed Michael...
to understand the scene, you actually must know the film.
The Apaches are the bad guys...
and the cavalrymen are about to free the children from the church from where the indians are fleeing.
The line of riflemen does not fire anywhere but in the direction of the village to support their commrades who attack the village again from the church.

Maybe you want to watch the video clip.
