Posted by Howlin on 14 Dec 2023, 08:56

Highly anticipated sets! thank you for the hard work to get them done and out of postponement. I am sure they will be hot sellers, I need 3 of the Scorpios! (for water warfare). Just need them to get to USA retailer.

I hope and trust all goes well with the others.

Thank you

Linear-A reports that they are finally going to release the following sets next week:
042 - Indus Culture 3300 - 1400 BC Set 1 Meluhha - Dholavira, Harappa, Mohenjo-Daro
061 - Imperial Roman Centuriones, Command Set 1
088 - Bacchanalia in Ancient Rome Set 1

In addition, they aim to proceed with the release of the other sets announced last year from March onwards.
Apart from that, all sets will undergo a price increase.

And just by the way, the long-announced Nap. Prussian Landwehr Cavalry has been quietly changed to another set. :eh:
024 - Napoleonic French Engineers "storming the Bridge at Charleroi"

The already extensive announcement list has of course been expanded in the meantime. ;-)

107 - Pyrrhic Elephants Pyrrhic War 280-275 BC, Battle of Asculum 279 BC
023 - Sacramentum militare / decimatio (5 figures)

Thanks once more for reporting these interesting news on future production.

I do not understand why they kick the Landwehr Cavarly. Even if there is the new Strelets range, with Prussian Cavalry Sets, there are a lot of possiblities to add a worthy and sought after set.

But in general Linear-a is doing a great job as a producer of new and nice sets in our favorite scale.

I want to know what the figures in the Bacchanalia in Ancient Rome Set 1 will look like, since they won't publish the masters. I guess it'll come out on PSR at some point.

Hi,

I have received today the new set 061 Imperial Roman Command set: wonderful, super detailed miniatures, really a joy to held them in hands.
Does anybody know, if Linear A has changed its production-process? I have the impression that these new miniatures were 3D-printed and not molding with regular plastic. They have still more weight and more diagonal fragile details than regular plastic miniatures. Will these miniatures exceptions or a new way of Linear A?

I think I remember the fact that one of the artists making the masters in Ukraine was killed in the war. So I think this might be the new way of production. But this must not be true... :eh:

Hi Sansovino and Clio,
actually I just obtained the Linear-A Centurions and Bacchanalias, too. First thing I can say that both sets are truly 3D printed, extremely precise, fully 3D with all undercuts etc. So, yes, it is the result of 3D graphic sculpting and printing.
Then the Bacchanalia, well they are truly "hot", remind me of old porno from the 80ies. It's all there, very little Roman (just a bit). For me not really useful because no buttons to paint, just buttocks. None of them are broken. Even the tiny, weeny you know whats are up to scale and unbroken - to my mind impossible to do in traditional figure sculpting.
So I let your imagination go wild :-D :-D :-D
Curious who will paint them up and show them first. Probably not me
Greetings
Michael

But you can post pictures of the masters in a separate topic with a nudity warning...

@ Michael haha, so the Bacchanalia is basically just an excuse to sell nude figures. That's fair enough, they're a business and I'm sure some people need those kind of sculpts. If it helps them stay in business, more power to them.

Wait, so the new models, they're 3D printed? So they're resin? Can you even 3D print plastic? How interesting. I wonder if they'd get into the STL business.

They're currently conceptualising the pose for King Pyrrhus, which is a model I've looked forward to, so very fun.

I think they used a 3D Printer to make the master from which they produced a mold for an injection machine.

Hello,
please trust me. All figures are 3D impression. It is impossible to do such fine details and more important the undecutting with standard plastic injection - even with sophisticated moulding techniques I doubt that it is possible. Just imagine a 3-some in full 3D, fully modelled in all detail, like Greek statues; how can you inject that?
Also, I remind you that I work in one of the companies which actually produces the resin for such 3D impression. We have such machines in our labs.
Some interacting figures are actually in separate sections. Otherwise you wouldn't be able to reach the space in between when set-up for painting them.
I still wonder what I can do with them. An antatomy lesson? A sex tutoring lesson with tiny toys? A Roman orgy? Phersu - god bless him - already made figures for this last topic. Well, someday an idea will appear...

Hello Brok, sorry if I was not clear enough. It is resin 3D printing. These are acrylic based resins hardened by a photocuring process (light induced crosslinking reactions :-)).
No other way to get such fine detail. To my mind really good quality

Linear- A have started releasing pictures of their new set the Roman surprise from Trajan's column. While nice, they already have a command set coming out. I don't think I need that many command figures

I see from PSR that there are possibly some new sets in development...

Linear-A have added many more new set titles to their plans, all for the ancient world. The latest additions are:
108 - Akkadian Empire
109 - Elam
110 - Han Dynasty "Emperor Wu of Han"
111 - Xiongnu
112 - Gangs/Revolt in Rome
113 - Sumer
114 - Manipular Legion
115 - Reliefs of Dur-Scharrukin
116 - Hatra
117 - Roman Dromedarii
118 - Polis of Athens
119 - Etruscans
120 - Gutii

They're making sets from periods that people haven't even heard of. One company is single handedly carrying the 1/72 ancients market.

How are the resin minis compared to the plastic ones? I missed out on the Roman command guys because of that, now I am debating about the standards or any of the other cool Assyrian and other sets to come out....

Its kind of a big thing for a company to change technique and material. Even though they look great and a good next step.
is it safe? fragile? bendy? etc...

All armies from the old WRG Ancients Army Lists! If I was still playing WRG I would be well chuffed at some of these, even Warhammer Ancient Battles Chariot Wars would be happy to see some of these.
