72139 - British Dragoons 1745
72140 - British Regiments of Horse 1745
72141 - Prince's Lifeguard and Fitzjames Horse
72149 - Bonnie Prince Charlie and Scottish Cavalry

I am looking forward to these sets, and am hopeful that 72141 will provide a basis for generic French cavalry for the WoAS and SYW. The two British sets should be good for British SYW Horse and Dragoons.

Redbox have certainly come a long way in recent years. Their mounted Musketeers set , which I received a box of a couple of days ago, is very well sculpted and will provide some good 'personality figures for my TYW project. The horses in that set may not be great, but are better than most Mars sculpts and may provide some good trotting mounts for various plastic cuirassiers. I suspect that they may mix quite well alongside Tumbling Dice metal ECW/TYW range horses, but have yet to test this.

A first sprue sample from the upcoming Jacobite Rebellion cavalry range.
72141 - Jacobite Cavalry Prince's Lifeguard and Fitzjames Horse Regiment

After that, RedBox will turn to other subjects. An early preview:
72142 - Ukrainian Registered Cossack Infantry 17th century (52 figures in 16 poses)

Very good! If these are the Fitzjames/Lifeguard cavalry then they are more 'Scottish' than I was expecting, but good nonetheless. I'm particularly looking forward to the two British cavalry sets.

The Ukrainian Cossack infantry also look very promising.

Thank you CPN! This looks like a set with a good mix of figures for the charge, some figures which would be good for outpost/picquet duty (on standing horses), and a couple of handsome officers.

I wonder if this is the other set, "Prince Charlie and the Jacobite Cavalry" ?

The dapper looking fellow at lower left might be Charlie and I see 3 figures for Baggots Hussars and the rest generic figures that will work for most of the Jacobite cavalry regiments. For Fitzjames's Horse I would expect to see breastplates under the coat and tricorn hats, perhaps we will see these in the other set.

Pleased to see the Baggots Hussars figs, it means that I don't have to use the Strelets Horse Grenadiers as a stand in and, as I said, the other figures will serve for most of the other Jacobite Cavalry. Just waiting for them to appear in a shop now. :-D

You're certainly right, its quite likely that the previously shown sprue shows a different set 72149 - Bonnie Prince Charlie and Scottish Cavalry.

On that new picture I believe I do see some breastplates peeking out from under the coats on some of the figures.

Excellent! :-D :yeah:

The figures without breastplates, painted blue with red trims, will absolutely work as Elcho's Life Guards for me.

Not sure what I'd ever do with any of these, but I feel like I still need to buy them...

I wonder about the Cossacks - I have a long fascination with the period, but so far did not start collecting them seriously.

I hope Haron will expand them into a full range, I think I will start making skirmish forces for the Cossack revolution and/or Thirty Years War.

They said that there will be three Cossack sets for the 17th century, all infantry as the 16th century sets can be used for later too. From what I understood the rest will be Zaporohian cossaks (boxart was shown, 52 figures in 12 poses) and a set of unregistered cossacks or rabble, I'm not sure. Also, Tartars, Hungarians and Poles were mentioned as a "maybe later" project.

I'm cautiously optimistic.

And as I cannot modify my previous post (maybe it can be merged with this?) two more teasers hit (now I will give you pics too!)

Two of the earlier announced cavalry sets seem to hit the shelves anytime soon now.

Did anybody spot a difference between the two sets?
Anyway, very nice and useful. A bit more modern than my lacy cavalry from Strelets

The main difference should be in the standard. Horse carried a cornet or square a flag and dragoons carried a "swallow tailed" guidon" in the side away from the pole forked. But apart from that, some subtle differences in uniform and, of course there was a difference in what the men were paid, there wasn't a great deal of difference.

But the box photo appears to show two copies of the same set, with different labels. Hmmm...

So far as I can see, these are the same set of figures in two differently-named boxes.

I note also that the horses appear to be pretty much the same 'generic' ones that Strelets have used for the majority of their WoSS cavalry sets to date.

However: The figures and the poses look perfectly good so far as I can see. The choice of poses for the horses is also perfectly sensible and allows units in 'charge' or 'slow advance' mode. So long as they are around 24mm in height and the moulding is nice and crisp, these 'two' sets should provide a useful reinforcement for the rather meagre range of sets available to model mid C18th British (and for that matter, other eg: Hanoverian/Hessian) cavalry.

Hello everyone,
The main difference is clearly visible when you zoom on one of the box you can see small blue pairs of scissors suggesting to cut the tails of these horses .
Very subtile indeed.
Have a great day everyone.
