28mm Diorama "Imperial Guard Baneblade"

Posted by T. Dürrschmidt on 25 Jul 2023, 21:52

Hi folks,

as a big fan of fictional tanks I knew I had to do the "Imperial Guard Baneblade" by Games Workshop some day. I bought the kit about 10 years ago....now I have completed it along with some of the new "Kasrkin Grenadiers" and a Kastellan robot. So this is it.

The new GW imperial plastic minis are some of the best I ever have built or painted....and also the most expensive.

I tried some new techniques this time painting the figures. Black primer and zenithal hightlights in different sandy colors with the airbrush. I painted the minis with quite dilluted acrylic paints (mostly GW) and also with GWs Contrast paints. I also had the idea to put the sign with the scene`s name (straight from the tank kit´s box) on the textured ground instead of glueing it to the wooden base.

For the ground I used AK acrylic texture paste "light and dry ground" and "crackle effects", along with some cork rocks and dried natural branches.

The camo net is an original German Bundeswehr first aid bandage in olive green color. I kept it since my time in the army 1995. :-D

Now feel the dry Bavarian desert and have a cool beer while watching the pictures.

Cheers! Thomas

WOOOOW! Simply magnificent Thomas. I would dare say this is my favourite diorama of yours up to now. It’s beautifully conceived and executed. Futuristic minis are not really my cup of tea but that doesn’t mean I can’t recognise a masterpiece when I see one. In particular I love the soldiers and their interaction with each other which is brilliant.
Basework and photography are excellent as always. Indeed I can’t find any fault at all. Congratulations on this mammoth diorama which will serve as inspiration for yours truly over the coming months!

Another one of your futuristic scenarios.
In the usual perfection.
I'm amazed where you always get all this from.

The new techniques you tried this time?

They worked. Quite well.

Personally I have no knowledge of this subject but once again you have shown a masterly exhibition of modelling and painting skill.

This, together with your normal photographic excellence makes it another superb contribution.

Best wishes ,

Chris

Sorry to bother you Thomas but would love to see a panoramic photo of the entire diorama to give us a better idea of the scale of your work!
Many thanks in advance and once again my congratulations on one more of your miniature masterpieces!

Magnificent work, you have an eye for detail and that makes the diorama really interesting to observe.
I also really like the choice of colors with this desert atmosphere.
