Benno's Figures fourm 2008...

Hey Erik, I was just teasing, goofen, whatever you want to call it

Just one question; are you also interested in other sports?
I live in a country where we adore cycling. And we also have the greatest biker of the past century: Eddy Merckx!
Now this time of the year there's a lot of cycling in the field (cyclocross): a one hour spectacle in the mud!

My observation that you were hopeless had nothing to do with this thread... .

Golf is the only other sport that I follow. I have very little interest in professional football (NFL). No interest in basketball and I hate baseball (rounders  ) and I'm not sure what hockey is, but I hear people mention it on the national sports radio shows. I'll listen to a nascar race on the radio every once and a while, but don't really it follow it.

There must be people who into cycling over here...Lance Armstrong and his pharmacist  ...but, I've never known anybody that was. Me and JC saw part of the Tour de France about 11 years ago when she came to visit me while I was in the service. It was fun...like a parade...and it was suprising to see how geeked up some of the fans were.

Through espn and some others we get some English Premier League matches (Jackson State University has it's own channel and somebody over there has it bad for Bolton...they are on every week), Euro and World Cup matches and some Rugby, mostly international competition...used to get lots of Australian Rules Football (another rugby derivative).

The college football bowl season will start in another week. It'll run 'til January 8th and then a few weeks later golf starts back up and that'll ease the pain a little, but this Saturday there will be no football and I don't know what I'm gonna do...drink I reckon.

Maybe Armstrong is the pharmacist :eh:
You paint when the game goes badly? Then you paint with aggression, so you're a painting hooligan, and working it out on your figures! With a good result! Keep the anger awake in you Erik  :joker:

You can bring it up here, but I'd imagine it's something you'd rather keep quiet about in your homeland.

I got no problem with the Sooners and Bob Stoops was the Gator's Defensive Coordinator when they won their first National Championship in '96.

How bout that, greatest in the history of college football, scored 60 plus points in their last 6 games, Sooner offense...Welcome to the Southeastern Conference b*****ES!

Hey Erik, where stays the inside information about the "Super Bowl" (that reminds me always at "punch" ;-) )?

To be honest I don't really follow professional football all that closely. I'll watch it tonight...everybody does. It's the biggest night for new television commercials...then there's the half time show...freaking bruce springsteen YAWN...then of course, there's a football game. It's one of the reasons I don't care all that much about the NFL...it's a circus with a football game during intermissions.

It could be a good game though. The Pittsburg Steelers have a stingy and abusive defense. They're one of the traditional teams...going for their 6th Super Bowl title. The Arizona Cardinals (used to be in St. Louis...another reason I don't like the pros much...they'll pick up and move a team across country) have never even been to a Super Bowl, but they have an explosive offense...should be good to watch the teams try and figure one another out...for a little while. I think in the end the Steelers will wear them out and win a low scoring game.

The name Super Bowl came from the original commissioners daughter. Up until the late 60's there were two professional leagues (the newer American and the old National). College football had had bowls for a long time (Rose, Sugar, Cotton, etc. based on the sponsor or something tied to the region where the game was played...the bowl part comes from the shape of old stadiums, i believe). Anyway they needed a name for the new Championship game and the dude's daughter suggested Super Bowl. You wouldn't believe how jealously they guard the use of the term Super Bowl these days...I'm probably breaking the law by typing it here...and the hilarious ways that restaurants and bars try and promote having the game on without using the term.

Anyway, in real football news....

No problem.

With the exception of teh Super Bowl, bowls are a College Football thing...there are conference tie-ins, etc, but teams still get invited to play in them.

To really be clear...the games weren't originally called bowls, the stadiums were. My Elis still play in the Yale Bowl...the first bowl shaped stadium...which is the name of the stadium and not a post-season game. The Cotton Bowl, for instance, is the name of the stadium where the game...that has come to be called the Cotton Bowl...is played. If you follow me.

Now all post season games, in college football, are called bowls...regardless of the stadiums name. It just became tradition or whatever.

Cole...you expect me to believe that you knew Harrisson was gonna intercept a pass in the endzone and return it 100 yards for a touchdown with no time left in first half???

Obviously Harrison didn't expect it...considering it took the whole medical team and a tank of oxygen to get him off the field after the play.

I didn't watch it this year as I had to be up early for work (which i couldn't get to because of the snow in London), but I am wondering if anybody on this forum got to see the Porno that was broadcast on cable instead of the Superbowl late in the game.
