Die Schlacht von Ligny 16th Juni 1815

I have commenced my re fight of the battle of Ligny and have attached some of the first pictures of the event.

As at Waterloo the ground scale is 1mm equals 1 metre and all units have been assigned their original start positions. The buildings and terrain, etc are scratch built. I would like to thank my wonderful wife, ‘Der Feldmarschall’ and my friend Thomas Mischak for their help and suggestions during my research and going forward.


Timeline.

Morning to 2.30PM

Generallieutenant Hans Ernst Von Zieten’s 1st corps completes it’s deployment in the villages of St Amand, St Amand la Haie and Ligny as civilians are evacuated. Feldmarschall Gebhard Lebrecht, Furst Blucher von Wahlstadt arrives on the field to the delight of his troops. His Grace the Duke of Wellington confers a little later to offer his ‘conditional’ support’ upon which the decision to fight is confirmed.

This work of yours is stupendously good, sir. The hours of pleasurable contemplation it has provided me cannot adequately be expressed in simple words. Your meticulous research and dedication to what is my favourite period of military history is pure inspiration. Thank you for showing it and I shall be following this thread with great interest.... and bated breath.

I`m very well impressed with your model soldiers,scratch buildings,and the photo shots too. I especially like the Splendid little Windmill on your Wonderful Diorama.
As a scratch builder myself I realise only far to well the hours of work that goes into constructing them, So a Big Well Done from me. BB

Once again, it's at the same time a wow and o-no experience for me.
On the one hand, the groundwork, the village, the scenery - really fabulous.
On the other hand - the historic research could have been done much better, starting with that flag and the uniforms.

The troops at the Ferme Den Haut are Westphalian Landwehr and the 19th line with pink facings.

The troops welcoming Blucher are from the 7th line with red facings.

The flags are from Nap flags.

Hi Chris!

Well - due to the pics, you picked the red flag of the 10th (Silesian) IR. When you pick out the 7th infantry regiment, you see three batallions to be chosen. If you pick up, for example, the 1st. and then click on 'uniforms', a window with two tabs appears. Chose the second (etat-major) and you get the right flag (white&yellow)

For the 19th, I have no reliable flag source. If, then they probably carried a typical black&white pattern.

For the artillerymen: black cuffs and collar with red pipings.

Thank you Zed, you have very sharp eyes!

It must be advancing years on my sight as I thought the cuffs were dark blue.

I will be changing the cuffs and collars on the Prussian artillery as a result.

Thanks for the flag tip. No Silesians were near Ligny except jager so I will change that as well.

I do not expect to get everything right but with the help of forum members I hope to recreate the 'feel' of the event to the best of my ability.

Timeline 3PM

His Majesty, Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte, surveys the Prussian positions from the Moulin Naveau with growing confidence. ‘ It is possible that in three hours the issue of the war will be decided’. ‘The Prussian army is going to be utterly smashed’ he states.

Prussian Jager prepare to defend the Chateau De Looz.

Third French Corps, Lieutenant- General Dominique-Rene, Comte Vandamme commanding, commences the attack on St Amand .

8th Infantry Division, under Lieutenant -General Baron Etienne- Nicholas Lefol leads the assault after a rousing speech, to the tune of La Victoire en Chanant.

7th Infantry Division, Lieutenant- General Baron Jean-Baptiste Girard begins to deploy through Le hameau St Amand.

The Prussian grand battery from General lieutenant Hans Ernst von Zieten’s 1st Korps begins to engage the French columns.

6th Cavalry Division, Lieutenant-General Baron Antoine Maurin advances towards the Prussian positions at Mont Potriaux, covering the flank of Fourth French Corps as it begins to deploy before Ligny village.

Amazing work.....the painting, composition, and base work....all are phenomenal. The photos are so realistic....it's like a war correspondent took pictures of the actual events. Bravo!!!!!
Love the scene were the civilians are off loading a Grandfather's clock amidst the military occupation....Terrific.
