Revell 30 Years War figures

Posted by Peter on 31 Aug 2015, 12:19

These figures I painted some time ago, just for fun, and because I wanted to paint something different. They are supposed to be from the same unit with the blue color.

I hope you like them! ;-)

Gosh! I do Like the way you painted these Peter,Splendid Work ! These 25 year old Revell figures, and full Sets certainly have stood the test of time, and are well worth collecting ,and when possible painting too. Anyone interested in them, but not familiar with Revell ,Imperial Infantry, and Swedish Infantry , can look them up on "Plastic Soldier Review" ,if they wish.
They are well worth the look. BB

A nice addition to Konrads MARS Pikemen, I think. I like them as well, Peter. And I can only agree with you, Paul!

Did you wash or shade these or both? I get a pretty good effect with brown wash on browns, greens and reds which seem to be a majority of colors I use with TYW/ECW. I wish I could get my blues to turn out as well as yours. I bought some blue wash but the results were not all I'd hoped they would be.

While the MARS figures a bulky and ugly I will say they have plenty of contour and take highlights fairly well and actually give a good result in mass formations on the wargame table. Quite different from the elegant detail of Revell and Zvezda.

Thank you for the nice comments guys!

@Paul (BB): yes, these Revell sets are of the best on the market. No mould lines, great poses, and enough figures to be worth the money I gave for them. Only thing I did, was giving the lances a point.

@Dave: these are done with a wash. The blue wash is from GW and gives a little shiny look. When I do blue colors now, I use a darker blue as the one painted, mix it with water, and then I add it like a wash. And it doesn't give a shiny look anymore.

Some of Revell's finest sets. Beautifully painted Peter! :-D

The only trouble is that the pikes are too short (although some were cut down). If you want to make them longer you can easily replace the with plastic sticks from a broom.

Cut to the desired lenght and voila! An added benefit is that the spears are a bit more stronger and don't bend as easily as the moulded pikes. :-D

Thanks Benno!

I have some of those, and yes I could have made longer spears. But you know me, I'm far to lazy to do it!

To be honest, if I would have tried, I think I would have damaged the figures. I'm no expert in cutting, drilling and replacing! ;-)

Ah! Yes,the bristles from the plastic yard brush. Simple to cut, than squeeze the end with pliers and trim to a point, and paint. Job Done. I go through about 5 yard brushes a year. Not that I have thousands to arm with pikes or lancers, No not that, I just like cutting bristles off brushes. Well it`s only a Hobby! BB

That`s so funny guys. The Brush chopping is one of those delightful never ending hobby`s,because once all the bristles have been cut off,one needs another new yard brush to sweep e`m all up! BB
