Hi bnabna... I will gladly answer you:
I prefer Vallejo products and I use them whenever I can. So washes are from Vallejo as well.
Black and skintone are Valleyo ready made product (Game Color) and sepia is mix of Sepia Ink and matte medium (and water of course). By coat of wash I didn't meant any product - when you apply all mentioned washes that is one coat (layer) in your painting process. Washes needs to dry before you move to next step.

Oh yes, now I remembered... I also make black wash with ordinary black ink + water + matte medium.

Excellent post. Love the terrain tutorial as well. It would seem you and I use a very similar painting technique. The biggest difference is my choice of wash. I prefer Citadel over Vallejo for washes only. Plus I can buy them here individually vs. by the set.

Do you use enamels for metal colour? I don't like acrylics for these.

Hi Donald... No, I don't use enamels... just acrylics (+ oils for larger scales)

What acrylics do you use for metals? I've only found satisfaction with enamels for brass, steel, gold etc.

And for me you can count Revell to! Vallejo is the best for gold. The rest, silver, boltgun metal, chainmail and so on, most of the time citadel. Sometimes Revell.
PS: I have trown all my enamels away! To much smell!

What I use:
Gold - Vallejo (excellent)
Gunmetal - Vallejo (reasonable) or even better mix Vallejo silver with Vallejo black
Silver - Humbrol ENAMEL
Aliminum - Humbrol ENAMEL
Cooper - Humbrol ENAMEL
These are the only enamel paints that I still use, but none of the acrilics that I have used are acceptable.
Just open the window...

I haven't tried the Vallejo metal colours. The GW paints (generally very good) don't make good metal colours.

It's summer here & mid 30s C so the windows are usually open.

It is very good (& doesn't smell like enamels!).
