SCW Moroccan Regulars

Posted by despertaferro on 12 Jan 2016, 17:22

Hi friends,

I’ve been very busy lately but I’m back (for a while I guess… :-D )

These are Nord African Troops from the Spanish Nationalist Army. They were very tough and reliable shock troops, being most part of them seasoned veterans from Spanish Colonial Nord African Campaigns. There were several units of them (named “Tabors”) and the sash and gaiters colour marks the place where they come from. This particular unit is from the Tetuan Group.

They are supported by a couple of Panzers and a captured T-26.

I hope you like them and many thanks for your time.

Hi, it`s my again…

I forgot to tell you that the figures are metal and produced in Catalonia by Minairons and the vehicles are S-Model.

I always miss that part… :-D

Great Morrocans! Where did you find paint schemes for SCW Panzers?

Hi Bluefalchion,

The only armoured vehicles imported to Spain before the war broke up were the French manufactured Schneider or Renault. Old and on a very poor shape after fighting the Spanish colonial war in Nord Africa, very few of them survive the first year of the Civil War.

So, the brand-new German, Italian and Russian tanks came to Spain wearing the original factory pattern. On the Panzers, some very dark-grey shade, typical for all the German vehicles of that period. In fact, they were nicknamed “negrillos” (something like “blackened”) by the nationalist troops. Later, being black and inappropriate camouflage colour for the hot, dry and dusty Spain, they were repainted in a dual tone camo pattern (green-ochre). Any combination of grey-green, olive-green or dark-green with light or dark yellowish ochre will do the job.

Tactical signs were painted on the glacis. Spanish flags randomly painted on the glacis and the rear of the turret. For air reconnaissance, the top of the turret was totally or partially painted in white with a black diagonal cross. Sometimes, just the hatch door was painted.

I guess that helps…

Despertaferro--

Thanks so much for your comprehensive response and also your continuing contributions to our hobby. I hope MiniIrons will sell many more boxes now that you have shown their potential. Please keep painting and posting.
