Pride and Prejudice Infantry

Posted by Marvin on 20 Feb 2016, 19:36

I was asked to paint some figures for a young lad's birthday. When asked what kind of figures I should paint, my wife suggested some Napoleonic British line infantry wearing a combination of either Belgic or Stovepipe shakos - Well, her actual words were "Pride and Prejudice type soldiers", but I guess that's what she really meant. ;-)

I was only given a week to paint 12 figures, so I had to rush it a little more than I like but here they are...

The shading on the grey trousers is my favorite. I quite like the faces, too.

Which one is the NCO? Guy with the sword?

Lovely looking figures, I would have been absolutely thrilled if I'd received these for a birthday when I was young.

On the "Pride and Prejudice" theme, I think that NCO could challenge Mr. Darcy to a disdainful look competition.

Thanks Bluefalchion, I'm really happy with the shading on the trousers too.

The NCO is the fella one below the guy with the sword. He's got some stripes (chevrons) on his right arm.

He also has a certain look on his face that seems to say "I'm going to severely beat Private Smith with my cane if he gets the drill wrong just one more time..." :-x

What a lucky kid! A great way to bring someone young into our hobby.

Since these figures will presumably be handled frequently, did you select a sturdy varnish or matte finish for them?

If I saw the sergeant looking at me that way, I would snap to in a quick hurry!

I applied a couple of coats of Daler Rowney matt varnish. Ultimately they're his figures to do with as he wishes. That said; I did paint a box of Strelets cuirassiers for him a couple of years ago and have been reliably informed they are carefully displayed on a shelf.

So the lucky receipient is, in fact, a youngish lad as opposed to a genuine young lad. Either way, he's quite a lucky one.
