Robert and Rhaegar on the Trident

Posted by Juba on 30 May 2016, 18:27

I was going through some old pictures and had forgotten about this. Although I love the book series I find the HBO show atrocious for reasons too long to list, so this piece has been collecting dust, along with the rest of my 1/72 armies of Westeros, which I must sell off before I move overseas...

Anyway, here's a badly painted mini-diorama of Robert Baratheon and Rhaegar Targaryen battling on the Trident... Rhaegar's black enameled armour was hard to depict. I'd do it differently if I did it today, and would definitely choose a different miniature (a knight without a surcoat), and add a much, much smaller dragon on his great helm. I'd also go much easier on the black-lining on Robert... oh well.

Nice small scene. 8)
How will Robert pass his antler with his battleaxe? ;-)

Ha! ha! Yeah, not likely huh? I really should have given him a dunk in boiling water and fixed it, though it isn't nearly as bad as those HAT spear-on-the-side-of-head poses. I guess he'll just smash it off...

Not one of GRRM's better ideas, all those antlers, horns, etc on helms... if you look at my icon pic, there's a knight with wings on his helm, also from ASoIaF. Martin seems to love the tourney splendor of the High Middle Ages.

Thanks for the comment.

Nice to see! If I had discovered the books earlier I would have tried something like that. Now I can only say, he'll never finish the books and he's not that interested to do it either.

Do not say that, Gunnar. I am still waiting and I hope he will not die before.

I like the idea of the two knights fighting. I have a longtime GoT-Project as well.
