British Coldstream Guards (Strelets)

Posted by Marvin on 11 Sep 2016, 21:22

Hello!

Been painting plastic 20mm figs again - proper plastic 1/72s! Well, that's if you call Strelets 'proper' - which I do! ;-)

I've been slowly adding figures from their Crimean range over the years and I thought it about time to do some from their "British Grenadiers in Summer Dress" set. I'm sure it's been pointed out before, but these aren't grenadiers - they are guardsmen; Coldstream Guards to be precise, because their plume is on the right of their bearskins.

Anyway, that's enough button counting. Here's the half-box I've painted so far.

Perhaps we should compare them to photographer Roger Fenton and his image of Coldstream Guardsmen from the Crimea...

You've achieved a really nice result with these figs. Great brushwork!

I think only Konrad and now you can make (older) Strelets sets look good when painted.
*I apologize if I forgot someone else to mention - but no one crosses my mind right now.

It's not easy to let STRELETS figs look like this.
Great Job. :-D

I painted some CRIMEAN BRITISH HIGHLANDERS from STRELETS.
You can see them here.

Thanks Konrad. You are the master at Strelets guys.

I really like your Highlanders. I do have some lying around but all that tartan scares me off painting them!

A great scene, Peter. I like the Russian figures on the ground - which set are they from?.

But I'm really wondering what the trophies are for that you've 'accidentally' sneaked into the background of the photo? ;-)

The Russians are ESCI. Remember I converted them quite similar. ESCI were very good for coversion with hot water.

I see, thanks. Might bring out some old ESCI figures and experiment - though I'd feel a bit like Dr Frankenstein.
