Rhodesian Bush War

Posted by despertaferro on 16 Sep 2016, 13:42

Hi there,

Wonderful metal figures made by Under Fire. Just one plastic figure, an old Esci Cold War French with a head swap.

I made a Rhodesian African Rifles unit, a Grey’s Scouts unit (horsemen with FAL rifles and Radio Sets, how I could resist?) and some Rhodesian white farmers supported by guards and P.A.T.U (police).

I hope you like them and many thanks for your time.

This is, outside Britain and South-Africa maybe, a not very well known topic. Very interesting, and beautifully painted.
But I'm still missing the Selous Scouts. ;-) (Although their pseudo-operations may not fit in tabletop wargaming.)

Thank you very much for watching my figures and taking time to post some comments…

Kekso, I always use a small pocket camera with a very tiny lens to take the photos I post here. This way, I can squeeze the lens between the figures and take these wide angle close ups that I like so much. But, when I was going to photograph these figures, I found the battery was flat; I haven’t the time to charge it, so I switched to my “professional” camera instead. These one has far better quality but, being the prime lenses too big, I had to take the pictures from some distance and with a 30mm. The difference you notice is due to the superior quality of the files, allowing to see more detail on the shadows. Next time I’ll drop the Chroma down a little bit: compared to the painted figures, the pictures skin tone has too much saturated red on it :eh:

Huib, Selous Scouts and RLI are coming… but first, some ZANLA/ZIPRA units to match them 8)

Sansovino, their enemies will be ZANLA/ZIPRA guerrillas. The actual president of Zimbabwe, Robert Mugabe, was their leader back on the 70’s… I wasn’t very interested on modern subjects until I found some metal figures from Under Fire Miniatures depicting the Soviet-Afghan war and Rhodesian Bush War; I liked them so much that I delayed some of my main projects to paint them :-D

Many thanks for you comments!

I also like your modern army. And I know the trap that nice figures can someone let forget his own limits and expend the collection...

Wow ! Just found this lot whilst looking for more information of the Grey's for my mid year commission. They're really very good. May I take some of these photo's and put them on my website and Facebook ?

Regards,

Bill Weston.

Hi Bill, as far we're not breaking any of Benno's rules, it is fine to me.

I'm a big fan of your figures. So, if somehow this can help you to promote them, I'm happy with it.

Interesting. Most chaps carry FNFAL rifles. Shorten the barrels up and the overall look is much similar to the German G3 which is for example very popular in the region around Sudan etc. Now a set of guerillas armed with Russian based equipment and you have some really generic stuff for African war theatres from the 1970s until today - especially because many modern African armies in duty dress have a very guerilla-like look. Nice gap-filler.
