A little bit history
The first "Motten" were made between 900 and 1000 AD, most of the "Motten" were produced in the 11th-12th century. Noble knights fortified their residence with ring-wall and "Motte". The tower hill - château à motte, the "Motte", is the most common form of attachment. In the district of Plön, there are the remains of 45 of these tower castles, eleven of which stood around Lütjenburg. Not every knight was to be able to afford a castle.

We had one here in Grefrath (Germany, lower rhine area near the dutch border), too. Later it was called "Horbes Bergske" what means "Horbe's little mountain". We had many Mottes in our area, because we had a kind of " triangle border" of 3 great Lords, such as Arch bishop of cologne, Duke of Geldern and Duke of Juelich.

Perhaps, once, when i am grown up, i will build a Dio depicting our "Bergske". ;-)
