French Lancers - Nappy Cavalry Project Regt #20

Posted by Marvin on 05 Dec 2016, 16:13

Hello everybody,

Thought I'd share my 20th - yes that's the 20th!! - cavalry regiment in my project. These fine figures are by Waterloo 1815 and I've painted the 1st Regt.

Photos and a little regimental history here on the blog: https://suburbanmilitarism.wordpress.com/2016/12/04/1er-regiment-de-chevaux-legers-lanciers-nappy-cavalry-project-set-20/

And finally, using a figure from another Waterloo 1815 set, a British Heavy Dragoon (1st Royals) being charged by a lancer.

Cheers

I love them!

This last picture with the lancer chasing the British Dragon, is not a scene from the film Waterloo?

Glad you like them. :-D

Ah yes, Waterloo! What a film! Always my inspiration. Though I notice that the director has Polish Lancers rather than the line version counterattacking the British cavalry. :eh:

Hi Marvin, I easily can be wrong, because I did watch that film almost 40 years ago... :-D
but the scene I remembered was something about an English lad who died holding on his hand a lady portrait.

That's right! I think it was Major General Ponsonby with the portrait in the film.

In fact, Britains have produced these figures to show the scene!

Dear Marvin, Great Work! I know quite well Mr Pierini the owner of Watreloo 1815. He always participates with his products in the various modelling and wargame shows held in northern Italy. He's quite a Tuscan character, proud and suscettibile (he's always disapponted with the reviews of his new sets on Plasticsoldiereview). He's now thinking of producing the French foot dragoons, a subject never covered so far.
Greetings . Giovanni.

I'm sure Mr Pierini can do it better, but this subject has been covered before... 8)

I have plenty of Dragoons on foot in 28mm,but Foot Dragoons would have a bag on their backs and of course the long straight sword fixed high on their belts.

A good set in 1/72 would be wonderful for infantry display.
I did ZVEZDA,conversions years ago, but they lacked the long sword so I was not 100% pleased with them. BB

Dear Beano Boy,
As far as you know do exist any set of foot dragoons, in plastic or metal in scale 1/72, compatible with the soldiers that we normally have in our armies. ? Giovanni.

Thank you Giavanni! Please give my regards to Mr Pierini, his figures are always beautifully sculpted. :notworthy: His Prussian Hussar sets that I painted last year were terrific.

And Plastic Soldier Review seemed to really appreciate the British Heavy Dragoon set recently, at least.

Looking forward to seeing those foot dragoons... :yeah:

Wooow Marvin ! French Napoleonic cavalry surely are an inspiring theme for anyone who loves painting miniatures!
28mm is the scale that most big painters love to use but honestly I really don't know why most of them turn their noses up at 1/72! These french lancers have to be one of the best new figure releases for some considerable time and your treatment of them Marvin is a joy to behold. As I have said to you before your painting is so good but i think your basing is a bit flat by comparison .
Besides the nit-picking, i loved your idea to increase the size of your painted units!
Can't wait to see more!

Mh, not sure on what I will give my comment??? The figures painted by Marvin or the cheerleaders of Dali?? :xd:

It's a dilemma! I like them both!
