Von Bulow's Prussian Generals

Posted by gbvarese on 30 Jan 2017, 20:56

Dear Community,

I post my Von Bulow's division generals. I've used the system suggested by Shako wargame rules for basing the figures ( Italeri, Revell, Watreloo 1815, and Strelets) .
You can see Von Bulow, aides de camp (with green facing), and generals of the general staff. There is also an oberst (colonel) commanding the reserve artillery.

I've got doubts on the color of the general saddle clothes : Rava (the famous and knowlegeable painter of military subjects) depicts them in blue with silver lace; the pictures I've found on the web represent them in red with the same lace. Do you have any further information on it?

Thanks Giovanni.

I pity the poor privates who had to carry those big blue signs about all over the battlefield. :eh:

Hello. I personally am not a fan of these figures but you have done a fantastic job bringing them to life.

The Cent Jours website suggests that black shabraques with a red trim and silver ornamentation was standard. I also checked the Ospray Armies of the Napoleonic wars which has a lovely Ligny plate showing the same.

I went with this and also the blue with silver trim for my staff figures as per Mr Rava.

The infantry look fantastic from the limited views and those Revell Prussians are a treat.

I like the Revell product but it is a shame they are so small and therefore do not fit in with other manufacturers.

Happy modelling.

Very nice painting on all of these figures, and the horses.

It's a pity that the Italeri set didn't fill the box up with more staff officers but you've done a great job with what's available.

I like those a lot - I need to paint up some Prussian commands, and have been nagging HaT to make the Landwehr bonus figures as Prussian command - generals and aides. The currently available choices are not the best really, although I like how the Strelets ones have painted up - just wish they were mounted

Dear all,
I thank you a lot for your encouraging comments. I bought the Revell Prussian when they were the only existing set on such a subject with the intention of doing the entire III Army Corps of Von Bulow, that fought gloriously in 1813. I still have to complete it with the incoming Hat Landwehr. The reserve regiments are a little more complicate as they wore many different uniforms. I'll post soon the infantry battalions that you see in the background.
Giovanni.

Dear Rosbif, Since the numerous Pussian battalions that you were talking about, were painted sometime ago, in order to give them enough dignity, to be shown on this site, it will take some time for rebasing and retouching them.
As soon as they are ready I'll post them.
Best regards. Giovanni.
