Macedonian Army

Hi everyone ! Afetr the Hypaspists and the elephant, let me show you other troops in the Macedonian army.

1. Heavy cavalry

In the DBA list, you have to represent Hetairoi and Thessalian cavalry.

Here are the Hetairoi, a word meaning Companions in ancient greek. They were the unit that Alexander lead himself on the battlefield - I promised myself to paint Alexander only when all other minis are painted.They wore very long kontos (cavalry lances) in battle.


Next come, the Thessalian cavalrymen. The man between the two other riders is an officer - he's got a panther skin saddle.

2. Light infantry

First, the Thracian peltasts in macedonian service. These fierce warriors were hired as mercenaries in several armies of the ancient mediterranean world. Their typical crescent shaped shields were called "pelta", which gave their name to peltasts as skirmishing troops.


Then you have other peltasts (the man on the right is an Agrianian)

3. Heavy infantry

First of them, the Pezhetairoi (foot companions in ancient greek) who are the famous Macedonian pikemen, armed with sarissa (pikes).


The picture below shows an Hypaspist - the fourth needed to have an element of Sp for DBA


The Macedonian army also employed Greek mercenaries.


And last but not least, a musician to add a bit of poetry on the battlefield

I like your painted Macedonians. In fact I like them very much. In fact they look much better than mine . And in fact I can use them very well. So please send all of them to my home adress right now and the bargaining about the price will be done afterwards

Question: What about the bases?

Great work on the shields. I ordered decals for mine since I am not much of a portrait painter and I felt the Hypaspist deserved a reasonable likeness of Alexander himself.

And for the bases... well, I must confess that a similar question was already asked on a french forum (Addict figurines), and I could find a lot or good/wrong reasons not to base the figures.

Today you will know the truth, the REAL truth: I am lazy

Oh well, after this unbearable truth, another not-too-bad reason: I will base them when all minis are painted, so that I am sure there are no significant differences between the different bases.

Oh, and maybe this (a weaker argument, though): it takes me a loooong time to paint an entire army, and I might be tempted to decide to use another set of rules before the end of the paint. l'Art de la Guerre instead of DBA for example, or even KoW historical...

And last but not least: I don't know any player using 1/72 minis !! So why hurry in basing ?
